TYLER, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler scored a goal in each half to open the 2023 season with a 2-0 victory over Jarvis Christian.
Junior
Alyssa Palisi headed in a picture-perfect pass from senior
Annabel Westbrook to put the first goal on the board of the season in the 29
th minute of action. UT Tyler never relinquished control of the match from that point forward and didn't concede a single shot in the final 45 minutes of action.
That defensive display in the second half was complimented by an insurance goal off the foot of sophomore
Brooke Mullins. Mullins put home a through-ball from classmate
Melissa Oliveira in the 68
th minute of action to double the UT Tyler advantage to 2-0.
The Patriots posted 10 shots in the second half of action and never allowed the Lady Bulldogs to generate any sort of offensive attack in the final 45 minutes.
Jarvis Christian produced their lone scoring opportunity in the 41
st minute on an attempt that was easily corralled by Patriot keeper
Daniella Wilken. UT Tyler totaled 17 shot attempts in the match, six of which found their way on target.
Those six shot on goal attempts all came off the foot of a different Patriot on a night in which UT Tyler displayed strong depth in their season opener as 24 players earned minutes throughout the evening.
Westbrook and Oliveira were each credited with assists on the Palisi and Mullins goals, while five different Patriots notched a pair of shot attempts.
UT Tyler will hit the road for match-ups at Rogers State on Thursday night and at East Central on Saturday afternoon.
