Patriots Battle to 2-2 Draw in Lubbock Road Test

The Patriots had the answer for each of the Chaps goals on the day and picked up another point in LSC competition on Saturday afternoon.

LUBBOCK, TEXAS – Luan Rangel and Danny DeMarias each netted a goal on the day as UT Tyler moves ahead in LSC play with their third point after a 2-2 draw with Lubbock Christian.

The Chaps got on the board first, netting a goal on their first shot of the game in the 10th minute of action. The Patriots nearly answered five minutes later on a shot from Omar Belahna, but the Chaps held firm.

In the 39th minute of action, the Patriots finally busted through for the equalizer. The Patriots got out on the front foot, but the ball was batted around just a few yards outside of the box. The failed clearance found the foot of Luan Rangel, who uncorked a laser with his left foot that found the back of the netting just inside the left post to make it a 1-1 game.

That tie was held for just over six minutes, as the Chaps found the go ahead goal yet again, this time in the 43rd minute to head to the half with a 2-1 advantage.

The two teams played to a stalemate in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Patriots found their way in the 54th minute as they knotted up the score yet again. On this charge, Julian Smith handled a ball near the touch line inside the box, and he slid a pass back near the penalty spot that found a running Danny DeMarias, who drilled a low shot that went right through the keeper's legs to make it 2-2.

Over the final 35 minutes, the two teams would be unable to break the tie, despite several shots on goal for both sides. Goalkeeper Luke Ryan made a pair of stout saves in the second half to preserve the tie, and the Patriots would earn the point for the LSC standings.

Rangel earned his first goal of the season on the day, and DeMarias picked up his third of the year and third in the last four games.

UT Tyler will now set their sights on St. Mary's for Wednesday night's matchup. That contest will take place in San Antonio and is set for a 7 p.m. start.
