LAREDO, TEXAS – Junior
Natalie Jones scored with less than two minutes remaining on the clock to keep UT Tyler's five-match unbeaten streak alive with a 2-2 tie on the road at Texas A&M International.
UT Tyler fell behind by a goal twice on Wednesday night, generating a response both times to record a 12
th point in Lone Star Conference play with the result. Jones put away a bouncing ball in the Dustdevil box with just 1:53 remaining on the clock to secure the 2-2 tie.
Senior
Mackenzee Stokes tied the game for the first time in the 74
th minute after Texas A&M International scored with six minutes remaining in the first half to take a 1-0 advantage into the halftime break. Stokes took advantage of a mishandled
Hana Masuko cross by the Dustdevil keeper, finishing into the back of the net to tie it up at 1-1.
Texas A&M International regained their advantage just a few minutes later, scoring in the 78
th minute. The Dustdevils held that one-goal lead for the next 10 minutes of play, answering a pair of UT Tyler chances before Jones played the hero role and scored with less than two minutes remaining.
Jones' seventh goal of the season was a product of positioning as she found a way to put a bouncing free kick away that rattled off the Dustdevil keeper and then a defender. Graduate student
Brooklyn Robinson delivered that free kick into the box from the other side of the field, leading to the scramble in the box that ultimately ended with a Patriot goal and a tie game.
UT Tyler held a 15-to-8 advantage in the shot column. The match was a largely balanced affair throughout, with both teams generating chances.
Jones,
Launa Torrez and
Ella Anderson all finished with two shots. UT Tyler put five of their 15 shots on target.
The Patriots move to 8-1-3 and 3-1-3 in Lone Star Conference play with the result.
UT Tyler will return home on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Oklahoma Christian.
