TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler enjoyed a second-consecutive dominant win with a 93-58 victory over Our Lady of the Lake on Tuesday night.
The Patriots shot 61.3 percent (38-for-62) from the field and out-scored the Saints by a 62-to-20 margin in the paint for the contest. Guard
Dontrell Hewlett went for 16 points, finishing the evening 7-for-9 from the floor, and added a team-high five assists.
UT Tyler led by double digits for over 30 minutes of gametime, extending their advantage to 23 points at the 39-16 mark with five minutes remaining in the opening half. A three-point make from Hewlett with three seconds remaining in the first 20 minutes of play gave UT Tyler a 51-31 advantage heading into the halftime break.
The Patriots did the majority of their damage with high percentage shots in the paint throughout the contest, many of which came in the 31 points off of 19 turnovers by Our Lady of the Lake.
Guard
Akok Machar went 6-for-9 from the field to finish with 14 points, while
Jadin Penigar (11) and
Hudson Anderson (10) both went for 10 or more points.
Forward
Sam Phipps led the rebounding effort with six boards and added nine points. The Patriots won the rebounding battle by a 40-to-23 margin.
UT Tyler padded their 20-point margin throughout the second half, extending a 30-point lead less than 10 minutes in and ultimately leading by as many as 40 with 49 seconds left on the clock.
The Patriots will play Wiley University next week at home with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
