TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler volleyball completed an unblemished weekend with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-13) sweep of Western New Mexico on Saturday afternoon.
The three-set victory completes a weekend in which UT Tyler won six straight sets to close out their 2024 regular season home schedule following Friday night's 3-0 win over UT Permian Basin. UT Tyler hit .300 on Saturday against the Mustangs to provide a second efficient performance in a row and were led by sophomore
Autumn Perry and
Kota Hartman, who totaled 13 and 12 kills respectively.
The program honored five seniors prior to first serve as part of the annual Senior Day ceremony and then moved to 14-6 on the year and 11-1 in Lone Star Conference play with the win.
Libero
Addison Evans totaled 16 digs in her final regular season match inside the Herrington Patriot Center to help lead a UT Tyler defense that limited Western New Mexico to just a .137 hitting percentage.
UT Tyler led from start-to-finish in the first set, turning an 11-6 lead into a 22-15 advantage that eventually ended in a 25-18 first frame victory. The Patriots put down 15 kills on 39 swings and forced Western New Mexico into eight attacking errors to maintain control.
Western New Mexico provided a much cleaner second set, holding a one-point advantage at multiple points through the midway stages of the frame, but a key string of three kills from Hartman followed by an error from the Mustangs gave UT Tyler a 21-19 lead that they would eventually close out 25-22.
Set number three was all Patriots as they started off on a 6-0 run and turned that early barrage of points into an 18-7 advantage. The Patriots totaled 13 kills on just 38 swings in that frame to hit .289 as a unit in the 25-13 win.
The 2-0 weekend with a pair of no-doubt sweeps keeps UT Tyler in a tie alongside Angelo State for second place in the Lone Star Conference. The Patriots will now hit the road for their final four matches of the regular season prior to the 2024 Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament scheduled for Nov. 21-23.
Perry hit .243 on the afternoon with her 13 kills on 37 swings and Hartman a .281 hitting percentage with 12 kills on 32 swings. Senior Dakota-Rogers Hurtado was outstanding on both sides of the net once again for the Patriots, putting away eight kills on just 13 swings and a trio of blocks to close out her Senior Day in style.
Setter
Saige Rivera finished the afternoon with 37 assists and eight digs.
UT Tyler will start their four-game road trip to close out the regular season on Wednesday night at Midwestern State.
