Patriots Close Out Regular Season with Draw Against Lobos

The Patriots put a barrage of shots on goal, but were ultimately unable to find the netting in a 0-0 draw.

ALPINE, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's soccer will have to play the waiting game for their LSC Tournament hopes as they posted a 0-0 draw on Wednesday against Sul Ross State.

The Patriots now will wait on the results of the Lubbock Christian vs. Eastern New Mexico game tonight at 7 p.m. to determine their postseason fate. The only scenario in which the Patriots are eliminated from conference tournament contention is if Eastern New Mexico wins by two or more goals. All other scenarios allow the Patriots into the tournament.

UT Tyler held an 18-7 shots advantage on the day and a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal throughout the contest.

Those shots would start early and often for the Patriots, as they posted three shots on goal over the first 21 minutes. They pushed their offensive efforts again over a six minute stretch from the 29th minute on that included four shots on goal, but again they could not find the netting as the Sul Ross State keeper continued a fine performance.

Goalkeeper Luke Ryan was forced into his first save of the contest in the 47th minute of play, but he delivered the save and kept the game scoreless. That allowed the Patriots offense to stretch their legs again, but another huge save from the Lobos kept it at 0-0.

Over the next 20 minutes, the two teams would settle into a defensive affair, with neither side gaining momentum. That changed in the 69th minute, as Bryan Rivas-Guzman nearly found the netting but the shot was saved yet again. Jose Ramos got the final look for the Patriots on goal in the 74th minute, but it too was saved.

Ryan would make another key save in the 77th minute, and the Patriots nearly found the winner in the 79th minute themselves but the ball was deflected at the final moment just wide of the goal.

Ryan made a final save in the 88th minute of play, all but ensuring a 0-0 draw in the regular season finale for both teams.

Rivas-Guzman led all players with five shots, including three on net. Luan Rangel posted four total shots, including two on goal.
