ALPINE, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's basketball opened the season with an 82-59 loss against Black Hills State at the Far West Texas Showdown.
Senior
Juan Pablo Camargo led the Patriots with 10 points. Black Hills State led for all 40 minutes of the contest, holding a double-digit lead for the final 28 minutes of the contest.
UT Tyler shot 32.8 percent (21-for-64) from the field and 25.0 percent (4-for-16) from three-point range.
Black Hills State totaled 41 points in each half while UT Tyler went for point totals of 24 and 35.
The Yellow Jackets led 15-4 less than five minutes into the contest. The Patriots cut the deficit to seven at 21-14 with 9:29 in remaining in the half, but fell back behind by a significant margin in the late stages of the first half at 41-22.
Black Hills State led by as many as 31 in the second half.

Jadin Penigar led the rebounding effort with five. Redshirt freshman
Mate Kapanadze led the team with three assists.
UT Tyler will play tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. against Metro State.
