PITTSBURG, KANSAS – UT Tyler track and field finished off the Indoor Gorilla Classic with a flurry of records falling as they now turn their eyes to the LSC Indoor Championships.
The day began quickly for the Patriots school records falling, as
Brooklyn House wasted no time in claiming the women's shot put record. She hit a mark of 13.29 meters in her second throw of the day, breaking the school record and ensuring her place in the finals of the event. She would be unable to pass that mark in her final throws, and booked an eighth place finish in the event.
In the invite edition of the women's high jump,
Juliane Frueh would pick up where she left off at the Washburn Open as she placed ninth overall. She cleared a height of 1.66 meters on her first attempt to book her top 10 finish.
In the women's pole vault invite,
Abeni Kratzmeyer would put together another NCAA provisional mark as she cleared a height of 3.77 meters on her day. That height put her in a tie for sixth place on the day, booking a third top 10 placement for the Patriots in the field events.
In the first track event of the day, freshman
David Soto picked up another top 10 for the Patriots, as he finished ninth in a time of 8:20.97.
Ashton Turner continued the trend for the Patriots, putting together a 10
th place run in a time of 8.06 in the 60 meter hurdles. That time was good enough for an NCAA provisional mark, but would finish just .04 seconds outside of qualification into the finals.
Turner's efforts jumped to a new height in the 400 meters, as he put together yet another NCAA provisional mark. He ran the event in a time of 47.98 seconds, a time that ties the school record in the event, and propelled him to a fifth place finish.
One of the best events of the day for UT Tyler came in the women's edition of the 400 meters, as two Patriots put themselves into the top 10 of the event.
Kamaria Carr put together another NCAA Provisional Mark in the event, running a time of 56.79 to place eighth. She was bested on the day however by teammate
Aerin Thompson, who set her own provisional mark in a time of 55.42 to finish second overall.
Over in the women's mile run, another freshman would make their impact on the competition, this time from
Kailynn Denney. Denney already owns both the 3,000 and 5,000 meter school records, and today she laid claim to the mile record as she completed the run in a time of 5:15.97. That time secured a 33
rd place finish on the day for Denney.
The Patriot who lost their mile record to Denney was
Calista Segura, but Segura would put her stamp on a different school record on Saturday. Segura took down the women's 800 meter record in a time of 2:14.92, and that time booked a 12
th place finish in the event.
The final school record of the day for UT Tyler was dropped in the men's 4x400 relay, as the efforts of
