UT Tyler scored 28 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half to come charging back after a 29-18 halftime deficit in a 69-62 loss to St. Edward's on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots knocked down 10 of their first 14 attempts from the field, and eclipsed their first half scoring total of 18 less than eight minutes into the second half of action. UT Tyler would go on to post 44 second half points, took a 55-53 lead with 6:22 remaining in the ball game, but ultimately couldn't close out the Hilltoppers in the final five minutes of action. John Barbee filled up the stat sheet once again for the Patriots with 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Junior Alex Zambie added 13 points and five rebounds to the effort as well.

John Barbee combined to score 40 of the team's 68 points on the night in a 78-68 Thursday loss to St. Mary's. Roberts went 8-for-13 from the field and knocked down four of the team's five made three pointers to lead the way with 23 points. Barbee added 17 points to pair up with Roberts to provide the majority of the offensive production for the Patriots. The Roberts-Barbee duo matched the team high in rebounds as well, grabbing eight boards a piece. UT Tyler (3-18, 2-13 LSC) out-scored St. Mary's (10-11, 6-9 LSC) by a 44-to-39 margin the second half, going 14-for-24 (58.3 percent) from the field, but couldn't manage to draw the scoring deficit in the final 20 minutes of play to single digits until the final minute of action.

Tim Moser takes the reigns of the program in 2023-24 as the fifth head coach in UT Tyler men's basketball history. Moser returns to the men's side of the collegiate game after serving as the Associate Head Coach for a remarkable turnaround within the UT Tyler women's basketball program. As a head coach, Moser holds a 514-189 career record (.747) and has won 13 conference championships en route to 12 conference or region coach of the year accolades. Combined with his totals as an assistant coach, Moser has coached 20 conference championship teams during his storied career. He has served as head coach on the men's side at Eastern Wyoming College from 2018-2021 and at Otero Junior College from 1998-2005. He went 150-33 (.828) over six seasons as head coach of the women's side at Alaska-Anchorage from 2006-12.Â
-Â The 2023-24 roster features just three returners from the 2022-23 roster for UT Tyler, only one of which saw game action last season. The 2023-24 roster features 16 newcomers to begin the year, seven junior college additions, five four-year transfers and four freshman.Â
