Box Score 2 TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler tennis split their action on Saturday as #12 men's tennis took down #23 Ouachita Baptist and the Patriots women fell by a score of 4-1 to (RV) Central Oklahoma.
The women took to the court first on the day, taking on (RV) Central Oklahoma in their second straight match against an opponent in the receiving votes category of the top 25 poll.
In doubles, the Bronchos got out to a quick start, taking a 6-4 win in line #3. The Patriots battled back, as
Allison Schwartz and
Muskan Gupta paired up in line #1 to take a 7-6 (7-5) win to pull even.
That left the doubles point down to line #2, and the Bronchos would end up on the right side of the tiebreaker as they took down
Kanika Sivaraman and
Elisa Buhagiar by a score of 7-6 (7-4).
Over in singles, Schwartz would continue on her doubles success, as she looked dominant on her way to a 6-0, 6-1 win to pull the score even at 1-1 in the match.
However, the Bronchos took control of the match in line #4 and #6, as they took a pair of straight sets wins to put them on the brink of winning the match.
That left the match down to #5 singles, where
Luisa Moraes battled tightly with her opponent. However, that battle would come up just short for Moraes as she fell in scores of 6-3, 7-5 as the Bronchos picked up their fourth and deciding point.
The Patriots get a chance to bounce back on Sunday as they take on Harding at 12 p.m. at the Summers Tennis Center.
For the #12 ranked Patriots men, they faced off with #23 Ouachita Baptist. The match began in doubles, where the Tigers took the early advantage as they took both the #1 and #2 doubles lines in scores of 6-4 to take a quick 1-0 lead heading into singles.
The Patriots took the challenge, and
Daniil Felker and
Carel Wessel answered the call quickly as they each connected in straight sets wins that saw the Patriots regain the lead.
The Tigers answered quickly with a straight sets win of their own to tie the match right back up, but
Joaquin Bianchi came up clutch with a dramatic three set win in scores of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to put the Patriots on match point. That match point closed out in the Patriots favor just minutes later, as
Jordi Garcia Portell put the finishing touches on a 6-1, 6-1 dominant straight sets win to give the Patriots a 4-2 win.
#12 UT Tyler will get the chance to close out their first weekend at home 3-0 as they host Harding at the Summers Tennis Center on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
