TYLER, TEXAS - #6 UT Tyler run-ruled UT Permian Basin by 8-0 final scores in both games on Tuesday afternoon and featured a
Kaylee Davis no-hitter and a wealth of offensive production along the way.
Davis retired 15 of the 17 batters she faced, conceding just a walk and an error, in the five-inning game two victory. Three different Patriots notched three hits in the game one six-inning victory as
Sam Schott,
Courtney Plocheck and
Cassidi Mullen all posted a trio of hits.
The victories extend UT Tyler's home winning streak to 39 straight, the longest active streak in Division II softball, and move the Patriot's overall record to 15-5 on the year.
Game 1
Schott, Plocheck and Mullen accounted for nine of the 10 UT Tyler hits in the six-inning 8-0 win in game one.
UT Tyler plated five runs in their first three trips to the plate and then tacked on the additional runs needed for the run-rule in their last two plate appearances. UT Tyler moved runners at will against the Falcons, totaling six stolen bases in the game, and drew six free bases by way of hit by pitches.
Schott and Mullen started their afternoon's off with RBI singles in the first to put UT Tyler ahead 2-0. Starter
Genesis Armendariz stranded a pair of runners in the first and then worked a clean second inning in the circle.
UT Tyler left five base runners aboard in the first two innings, but finally cashed in additional runs in the bottom of the third with Mullen's second RBI single of the afternoon. Mullen scored on a double steal of home to make it 4-0, and then watched as Schott followed suit with her second RBI single of the game to make it 5-0.
An error by the Falcons allowed Schott to score in the fifth to make it 6-0. Armendariz found trouble in the top of the sixth and gave way to junior
Christin Haygood for the final two outs of the frame, keeping the shutout in-tact.
Armendariz was rock solid all outing for the Patriots, going 5.1 innings while scattering four hits. The Hobbs, N.M. native struckout four and walked just a single batter.
UT Tyler loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth and then scored the two runs needed for the run-rule on an RBI grounder by Haygood and Plocheck's third hit of the ball game on an RBI single to the shortstop.
Plocheck finished game one 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Schott matched that 3-for-4 outing with a pair of RBI and runs scored, while Mullen filled up the box score with a 3-for-3 effort that featured two RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases.
Game 2
Davis continued her fine form in the circle in game two, posting a no-hitter that saw the Venus, Texas native retire 15 of the 17 batters that she faced in the game.
She retired the first 14 batters in order, and then sat down her final out of the day after an error and walk put the only two runners aboard for UT Permian Basin. Davis has gone the complete game and won each of her four starts in 2024 and has allowed just two earned runs over the last 25.0 innings of work.
The Patriot offense was impactful all game, scoring runs in all but one trip to the plate to keep the momentum going through Davis' efforts in the circle. Mullen went 2-for-2 at the plate in the finale on Tuesday, completing a 5-for-5 day at the plate for the Royse City, Texas native.
She started the scoring early once again with an RBI single that put the second run of the first inning on the board for UT Tyler. Senior
Audrey Escamilla got the scoring started with an RBI single of her own that scored freshman
Makayla Garcia.
Plocheck drove in the third UT Tyler run of the game in the second inning with an RBI double. Escamilla's sac fly a few batters later notched her second RBI of the game and made it 4-0 in favor of UT Tyler.
Escamilla notched RBI no. 3 of the day in the fourth inning on an RBI single. The Weslaco, Texas native went 2-for-3 with the three RBI and a run scored.
Pinch hitter
Madison Okano tripled in the bottom of the fifth inning to scored Mullen and junior
JT Smith, and then came across on a Clarissa Zapata double that made it 8-0 and enacted the second run-rule of the afternoon.
UT Tyler totaled nine hits in game two.
Davis moved to 5-0 on the season with the complete 5.0 innings of work, striking out three Falcons along the way.
