TOPEKA, KANSAS – UT Tyler track and field posted a bigtime day on the final day of action at the Washburn Open, taking down another school record and posting more NCAA marks.
Leading off competition for the Patriots was the women's pentathlon, and two Patriots would battle their way to the top 10.
Isabel Jakobsen picked up a ninth place finish and 2,997 points in her efforts, showing off strong form in the 60 meter hurdles (4
th place), 800 meters (6
th place), and long jump (9
th place).
Joining her with strong placement was
Juliane Frueh, who put together an NCAA provisional mark in the event with 3,611 total points. Frueh showed dominant form, breaking the school record on her way to winning the high jump at a height of 1.73 meters, and winning the 800 meter event. She grouped those wins with placements of fifth (shotput), seventh (long jump), and 10
th (60 meter hurdles) to finish just 10 points outside of second place and 14 points out of first place overall.
One of the first track events of the day came in the form of the men's 60 meter hurdles, and a pair of Patriots earned placement into the finals of the event.
Ashton Turner ran a time of 8.17 in the prelims to post an NCAA provisional mark, while
Brandon Arenas ran a time of 8.27 to place seventh.
In the finals of the event, Arenas would get the better of Turner, running the same time of 8.27 seconds to finish in fourth place while Turner ran a time of 8.39 seconds to place eighth.
The racing continued over in the men's mile run, as
David Soto took down his own school record in the event in a time of 4:12.81. That run would give him second place on the day in a strong effort, finishing just under two seconds outside of first place.
The Patriots again enjoyed success in both the men's and women's 400 meters, as
Nicholas Davis picked up a 10
th place run after clearing 48.75 seconds. He also finished fourth amongst Division II competitors.
In the women's version of the event, both
Kamaria Carr and
Aerin Thompson would run their way to the top 10, Thompson would finish fourth overall, while Carr finished ninth. Thompson ran a time of 56.04 while Carr finished in 56.64 to ensure that both snagged NCAA provisional marks on the day.
Calista Segura would join the Patriots top 10 runs with her own efforts in the women's 800 meter's. Segura ran a time of 2:18.82 on the day to place seventh overall and fourth amongst Division II competitors.
In one of the final events of the meet, the Patriots put up a trio of athletes into the women's pole vault. That trio of athletes saw
Olivia Mitchell and
Adoniyah Pearson place 10
th overall as they each cleared 3.45 meters in their first attempts but were unable to clear 3.60 meters.
The lone Patriot to clear that 3.60 mark was
Abeni Kratzmeyer. Due to her previous marks this season, she was able to start at that height, and cleared that bar on her first run. In her second height at 3.75 meters, she was unable to clear that mark and was forced to settle for a seventh place finish.
For the day, the Patriots put together five NCAA provisional marks across four different events, and 12 Patriots earned top 10 finishes in a talent laden field.
