A LOOK BACK
2023 saw plenty of action for the Patriots, as the men's program laid claim to their second LSC regular season title in the last three seasons, while also making their way to the NCAA Round of 16 for the second consecutive season. Overall, the men's program went an impressive 20-3 on the year, including a match win streak of 18 straight. The Patriots would eventually fall in the LSC tournament championship to Cameron, but bounced back against Midwestern State in the NCAA South Central Regional to earn their ticket to the Round of 16. In that match, the Patriots faced off with Hawaii Pacific, but ultimately fell just short by a score of 4-2 to end their season.
On the women's side, the team finished 12-10 overall and 6-4 in LSC play. The Patriots picked up wins over #42 DBU and (RV) Harding during the season, and eventually battled their way to the #5 seed in the LSC tournament before falling to Angelo State to end their season.
THE FALL SLATE
In the fall slate, it was the women's program that made some big waves at the ITA South Central Regional.
Muskan Gupta and
Allison Schwartz combined for a formidable doubles pair that rolled all the way to the finals of the doubles draw before coming up just short. Gupta herself also made a deep run in the singles draw, getting all the way to the semifinals before bowing out.
On the men's side, they would put together several solid runs, as
Daniil Felker,
Egor Shestakov, and
Jordi Garcia Portell each battled their way to the round of 16. In doubles action, Shestakov and Felker combined to make a deep run that saw them make it all the way to the semifinals, but they would come up just short in a tiebreaker to bow out of the tournament.
THIS WEEK'S ACTION
This week will see the men's program take on Delta State, Mississippi College, and Harding, while the women's team will take on Mississippi College and Harding.
Delta State went 2-11 last season and 1-8 in Gulf South Conference play. The two programs have faced off just one time in their history, with the decision going in Delta State's favor by a score of 6-1 back on February 2, 2020.
Mississippi College's men's program finish the 2023 season at a record of 10-9 overall and 4-5 in GSC play. In the two teams history, the Patriots hold the advantage at 5-0, with four of those five meetings occurring in Tyler.
The Choctaws women's team battled their way to a strong 15-5 record last season that saw them go 7-3 in GSC play. The Patriots hold a 3-1 advantage in the series history, with all four of those matches taking place in Tyler.
Harding is responsible for one of the Patriots men's three losses last season, and they would go on to finish 11-9 overall and 2-1 in conference play. All time, the Bisons hold a 2-1 series lead, with all three matches coming in Dallas, Texas.
The Harding women completed an 8-15 season last year and played to a 2-3 record in conference play. The Patriots last season took down the Bisons, who were Receiving Votes in the ITA Poll at the time. The series history stands 2-1 in the Patriots favor, with all three matches coming in Dallas, Texas.
