Patriots Wrap Up Rain Shortened TCU Alumni Invite

Rain forced the cancellation of around half of the meet, but the Patriots put together a strong showing in limited action.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – UT Tyler put up a trio of NCAA provisional marks at the TCU Alumni Invitational in their first outdoor action of the season before around half of the meet was cancelled due to weather.

The first events of the meet took place on Friday night, as the Patriots took part in the throwing events at an off-campus site. Dustin Earhart led off in the men's discus, and he threw a mark of 38.72 meters in his third throw to book an eighth place finish.

Following his efforts was the women's discus throw, where Brooklyn House wasted no time in getting her name into the NCAA provisional marks. After initially hitting a distance of 40.50 meters to put herself in the finals, she tacked on a huge throw of 46.62 meters in her final throw of the day to jump all the way up to fourth place.

Joining House in the top 10 were teammates Lilly Wolf and Rachel Afulike, who finished sixth and ninth, respectively. Wolf hit a distance of 40.45 meters, while Afulike threw a distance of 32.94 meters.

House continued in the shot put on Saturday, where she posted a seventh place mark in the shot put. After a throw of 12.47 meters on her first attempt to make the finals, she added a throw of 12.48 meters to ensure the top ten finish.

Earhart followed suit with House in posting another strong finish on Saturday as he took on the men's edition of the shot put. He hit a mark of 12.77 meters in his second attempt, earning a 10th place finish.

The second NCAA provisional mark came in the women's pole vault, as Abeni Kratzmeyer booked a strong finish. She would skip the first three heights due to previous marks, and battled her way through heights of 3.45, 3.60, and 3.75 meters to move up to the top five. In her third attempt at 3.90, she cleared the bar, ensuring a third place finish.

Joining Kratzmeyer in the event was Adoniyah Pearson and Olivia Mitchell, who tied up at 3.45 meters and ninth place. The pair each took just two attempts at the height to clear the bar, ensuring top 10 finishes.

Over in the running events, the day's schedule moved into a rolling schedule to try and beat as much weather as possible. That meant an early start for the Patriots, who got their day going in the steeplechase.

Elayna Metzger started strong, finishing in 12:52.32 over the 3,000 meter race. That finish earned a sixth place spot in the event. On the men's side of the same event, both Jacob Berryhill and Dylan Navarette each put together top five finishes. Berryhill finished in a time of 9:43.03 to finish second, while Navarette finished the event in a time of 10:17.57 to pick up a fourth place run.

In the men's 1,500 meters, David Soto put together another strong performance for the Patriots. He finished the event in a time of 3:56.47, delivering a second place finish for the program.

The next event up for UT Tyler was the women's 100 meter hurdles, where they stacked up another pair of top 10 finishes. Leading that charge was Isabel Jakobsen, who finished ninth in a time of 15.15. Right behind her was Lilly Wolf, who finished in a time of 15.31 to place 10th.

In the very next event, the Patriots put together one of their top events of the day in the 110 meter hurdles. Brandon Arenas placed fifth overall in a time of 14.55 in the 20 competitor field. His efforts were bested though by Ashton Turner, who took the top spot on the day with a time of 14.16 and an NCAA provisional mark.

Over in the women's 400 meters, the Patriots put up their final two top 10 finishes of the day, as Aerin Thompson and Kamaria Carr each finished seventh and ninth overall, respectively. Thompson ran a time of 56.75, while Carr went in 57.23. Thompson's time also booked a school record in the event.

Next up will be Masked Rider Open on March 22 and 23, hosted by Texas Tech as the Patriots continue their outdoor season.
