LUBBOCK, TEXAS – UT Tyler track and field put together a tremendous effort at the Masked Rider Open on their way to several top 10 finishes and seven new school records.
The Patriots efforts began on Friday with the women's javelin throw, as
Lilly Wolf picked up the first top 10 finish. She threw a mark of 36.48 meters in her first attempt, good enough for eighth place.
Dustin Earhart continued Friday's action, placing top 10 in both the shot put and the hammer throw. In the hammer, he placed seventh, hitting a mark of 47.43 meters. In the shot put, he threw a mark of 13.74 meters on just his second attempt of the day to finish sixth.
Saturday began with the first of seven school records falling, as
Finley Hunting found her way into the record books with a time of 40:20.55 in the women's 10,000 meters.
Next up on the day was the 5,000 meters, where the men had two top 10 runs and the women added in two more themselves. On the men's side,
David Soto and
Jacob Berryhill finished third and sixth, respectively. Soto ran a time of 15:01.36 and Berryhill ran a time of 15:38.77.
On the women's side,
Elayna Metzger and
Gracie Ladner finished fourth and eighth. Metzger finished in a time of 19:24.56, while Ladner finished in 20:03.02.
In the "A" section of the women's discus,
Brooklyn House added to the top 10 tally, as she finished seventh overall with a throw of 43.79 meters.
The Patriots kept the momentum going in the women's pole vault, as
Adoniyah Pearson and
Olivia Mitchell tacked on another pair of top 10 finishes. Mitchell placed ninth, as she covered a height of 3.46 meters. Pearson jumped up to fifth, as she cleared the bar at a height of 3.61 meters.
Over in the women's long jump, the second school record of the day fell as
Aerin Thompson continued her tear in the outdoor season. She cleared a distance of 5.85 meters on the day to finish fourth, and also tack on an NCAA provisional mark in the event.
In the men's version of the same event, MThabisi Mpofu picked up a seventh place finish as he jumped a distance of 6.97 meters.
Back over on the track, the Patriots got right back to work in the men's 4x100 relay. Mpofu,
Nathan Williams,
Jackson Crysup, and
Nicholas Davis combined for a time of 40.93 seconds, setting a new school record in the event while finishing third overall.
The school records kept falling, as
Ashton Turner blitzed the record in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 14.05 seconds to place fourth overall and also pick up an NCAA provisional mark in the event.
Joining him was
Brandon Arenas, who picked up another Patriots top 10 as he finished in 14.49 to place ninth.
In the women's edition of the 400 meters, yet another school record fell as both
Jasmine Haywood and
Kamaria Carr finished ahead of the school record. However, Carr would have her name in the books as she finished in a time of 55.74 while Haywood finished in 55.81. The pair would also finish seventh and eighth in the competition.
Thompson went back to work in the women's 800 meters, taking down another school record in the process. She ran a time of 2:14.33 to place fifth overall in the event.
In the men's edition of the same event,
William Davis ran his way all the way to third place in a time of 1:51.93 to tack on another Patriots top 10.
The final school record of the day went down in the men's 400 meter hurdles, as
Ashton Turner continued his hot streak as he ran a time of 51.98 to place third overall in the event and pick up yet another NCAA provisional mark on the day.
The final top 10 of the day came in the men's 1,500 meters, as
David Soto connected on a time of 4:00.08 to place eighth overall.
The Patriots will now take on the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational next week on March 27-30 in both Austin and San Marcos, Texas.
