TYLER, TEXAS – Starter
Rawley Hector tossed a three-hit shutout and the UT Tyler offense broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning to win an 11-0 run-rule over UT Permian Basin on Friday night.
Hector retired the first 10 batters he faced in order and went the complete 7.0 innings after the Patriot offense plated 10 runs between the fourth and fifth innings to enact the run-rule. Leadoff batter
Nathan Carriere hit a grandslam in the bottom of the fourth inning to begin the onslaught of UT Tyler runs.
The victory starts a crucial series off on the right foot for the Patriots in a battle between two clubs vying for Lone Star Conference and South Central Region positioning.
Carriere was apart of a top of the UT Tyler lineup that produced six of the 10 Patriot hits for the game, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI on the grand slam.
Lane Hutchinson and
Ethan Bedgood joined Carriere with 2-for-4 outings on a night in which Bedgood matched the UT Tyler program record for career hits with 237.
Hutchinson came home for the first run of the game on an RBI groundout by
Kyle Atkinson in the bottom of the first. A pair of walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth for UT Tyler, setting up Conner Clark's RBI single that scored
Austin Ochoa to make it 2-0.
Carriere's grand slam on the ensuing at bat over the left center fence extended the advantage to 6-0. A Blake LuBuda grounder after a pair of Hutchinson and Bedgood singles scored the seventh run of the game for the Patriots, and a bloop RBI single from
Kaston Mason the eighth run.
Hector took a no-hitter through 5.2 innings of work and then added three more runs of support from his offense in the fifth.
Freshman
Drew Schmidt led off that three-run frame for the Patriots with a solo homer to make it 9-0. Hutchinson and Bedgood then added back-to-back RBI groundouts to round out the scoring at 11-0 in favor of UT Tyler.
Hector conceded two singles to leadoff the top of the sixth and worked out of a bases loaded jam thanks to a highlighted diving catch by the leftfielder Clark who doubled up the Falcon at second base for the third out of the inning. A clean seventh inning secured the complete game shutout for Hector.
The Van Alstyne, Texas native stuckout four and walked just a single batter.
UT Tyler notched 10 hits as an offense, three of which went for extra bases. The Patriots were also hit by three pitches and drew four walks.
The UT Tyler baseball program will recognize six seniors in-between tomorrow's doubleheader slated for a 3 p.m. start as part of the annual Senior Day celebration. A pregame commencement ceremony will also take place for the UT Tyler baseball graduates at 2:35 p.m.
