Women’s Tennis Rounds Out LSC Schedule This Weekend

UT Tyler will take on #18 Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville on their home court in their final two regular season matches.

LAST TIME OUT
 
Over the last week, the Patriots have battled it out with three consecutive ranked opponents in #20 Lubbock Christian, #4 Midwestern State, and #50 DBU. In those matches, the Patriots steadily stayed in all three contests, but fell in scores of 7-0, 6-1, and 5-2 over the week.
 
NATIONAL ATTENTION
 
This week in the ITA Rankings, Muskan Gupta leads the way for the Patriots as she is ranked #21 in singles in the latest rankings. She also pairs up with teammate Allison Schwartz to create the #37 ranked doubles team in all of Division II. In singles, Gupta is 18-6 on the season and is the fourth highest ranked LSC player. In doubles, the pair is 11-7 on the season and is the sixth highest ranked duo in the LSC.
 
THE LSC UPDATE
 
As of Thursday, the Patriots are currently ninth in the latest Lone Star Conference standings with just two matches to play. The top eight teams will make the Lone Star Conference tournament to take place next week, and the Patriots are just behind UT Permian Basin and Texas A&M-Kingsville for the final spot.
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville stands at 3-5 with matches against DBU and UT Tyler to play. UT Permian Basin is 3-6, and faces St. Mary's in their final contest. The Patriots are 2-6 will have two matches against Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
 
THIS WEEK'S SLATE
 
This weekend begins at 11 a.m. on Friday, where the Patriots will face #13 Angelo State at home. The Rambelles are 17-2 overall, and have won their last four matches in a row, all in LSC action.
 
They are led in singles by Letizia Corsini, who is 17-0 in the #1 line and one of the top singles players in Division II. In doubles, Corsini pairs with Ayda Guler to create a fearsome doubles pair, currently 16-2 in the #2 line on the year.
 
On Saturday, action turns to an 11 a.m. start with Texas A&M-Kingsville, also at Summers Tennis Center. The Javelinas are 9-8 overall, and have won their last two contests by scores of 7-0.
 
The Javelinas are led in singles by Alessa Maier, who is the top ranked LSC player in the ITA Rankings at #6. She is 23-2 on the year. In doubles, Maier pairs with Milou Ter Morsche to create the #15 doubles pair and a record of 14-2.
