Box Score ARLINGTON, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's tennis will advance to the LSC Tournament Semifinals for the third straight year as they defeated #6 seed St. Mary's on Thursday afternoon.
The Patriots narrowly took down the Rattlers in their regular season matchup, but the Patriots didn't leave anything up to chance as they quickly took care of business and didn't allow the Rattlers to earn a point.
In doubles, the Rattlers took the early advantage, as they rolled to a 6-1 win in the third line over the pair of
Jordi Garcia Portell and
Job Japelj. However, the Patriots had the answer, as their top ranked line of
Daniil Felker and
Egor Shestakov paired up for a 6-2 win in line #1.
That left the doubles point in the hands of line #2, and
Joaquin Bianchi and
Carel Wessel combined for a 6-3 win to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
Over in singles, Shestakov continued the Patriots positive momentum as he put together a 6-3, 6-3 straight sets win to put the Patriots up 2-0. Another point quickly followed in the #4 line, as Felker won his match 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 to put the Patriots on match point.
The final point would come down to the #5 line, where Garcia Portell avenged his doubles loss with a huge 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win to claim the third singles match and the fourth total point for the Patriots to secure the win.
UT Tyler now moves on to face the #2 seeded UT Permian Basin, who also took their afternoon match by a score of 4-0. That match is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Arlington Tennis Center on Friday.
