Box Score 2 TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler tennis will take a split with Cameron on Friday in what was their first LSC home match of the season.
On the women's side of the match, the Patriots battled with the #31 ranked Aggies in their matchup.
In doubles, the Aggies held the advantage, sweeping all three doubles matches by scores of 6-4, 6-2, and 7-5 to take the early lead into singles.
In those singles matches, the Aggies kept up their momentum, rattling off straight sets wins in both the #3 and #4 lines to move ahead 3-0.
However, the Patriots answered back, as
Muskan Gupta took a 7-5, 6-3 straight sets win to get the Patriots on the board. Following her was
Allison Schwartz in the #2 line, who provided the dramatics for the Patriots as she delivered a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 three set win to get the Patriots back within just one.
The match would hang in the balance for line #5, but the Patriots fell in straight sets as the Aggies picked up their fourth point.
The Patriots would grab one more point on the day in the #6 slot, as
Luisa Moraes picked up a tiebreaker win by scores of 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9).
Over on the men's side, the #20 ranked Patriots battled with Cameron also, and just like the women's match, the Aggies picked up the early point after taking the doubles matches.
Both teams shared 6-4 wins in line #1 and line #2, as
Joaquin Bianchi and
Carel Wessel took the win in line #2 to force the point to the third match. In that third match, the Aggies held on late for a 6-3 win to take a 1-0 lead.
Over in singles, it became a Patriots landslide, as they took the #1, #2, and #4 lines, all in straight sets, to take a 3-1 lead. Bianchi took his win with scores of 6-3, 6-3, and
Egor Shestakov took his win in scores of 6-3, 6-4. Wessel followed suit with a dominant second set, taking his win by scores of 6-4, 6-1.
The Aggies battled back, taking a 6-2, 6-4 win of their own in the #3 line.
That left the match in the hands of the #6 line, where senior
Yudai Watanabe stood to give the Patriots the win. He put together one of his best appearances of the year, a straight sets win by 6-1, 6-0 to give the Patriots their fourth point necessary for the win.
The final point of the day came in the number five line, as
Jordi Garcia Portell took a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) straight sets win to cap off the day with a 5-2 win in favor of the Patriots.
UT Tyler will now move on to Saturday's action, where each program will face off with UAFS. They will also be celebrating both Alumni Day and Senior Day during Saturday's play. The senior ceremony recognizing
Egor Shestakov,
Yudai Watanabe, and
Muskan Gupta will take place immediately following the conclusion of play.
