Box Score 2 TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler tennis capped off Senior Day and Alumni Day with a flourish as both programs completed a 6-1 win over UAFS.
Also celebrated on the day were the careers of
Egor Shestakov,
Yudai Watanabe, and
Muskan Gupta for their contributions to the program as seniors.
On the women's side, UAFS got the scoring started as they took the doubles point after taking both the #2 and #3 lines in a comeback effort. The #1 line saw
Allison Schwartz and
Muskan Gupta combine for a 6-2 win.
Down 1-0, the Patriots needed a quick comeback, and Gupta answered that call with a dominant effort in the #1 singles line. She gave up just one game over her two set win as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Just behind her was her doubles partner Schwartz, who collected a 6-4, 6-2 win to make it 2-1 and give the Patriots a lead they would never relinquish.
Those two wins started a Patriots avalanche, as
Luisa Moraes and
Anna Melnik each added straight set wins in the #6 and #4 lines to give the Patriots their four points necessary for the win. Moraes took her match in scores of 6-0, 6-4, and Melnik added her win in scores of 6-4, 7-5.
Elisa Buhagiar added on a straight sets win of her own, as she took her win by scores of 6-3, 7-5 to make it 5-1 for UT Tyler.
The final match of the day would be Kanika Sivarman, who was the lone Patriot to go to a third set on the day. However, despite the third set, she would also tack on a win, completing a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 win to ensure the Patriots swept singles.
Over on the men's side, they got their day started in a strong effort in doubles, as they took each of the three matches in scores of 6-3, 6-1, and 6-1 to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Joaquin Bianchi and
Carel Wessel took a 6-1 win in line #2, and Forkane Lebdi and
Job Japelj added on their own 6-1 win in line #3 to ensure the Patriots took the point.
The Lions would strike back in singles, taking a straight sets win in line #3 as they drew even in the match. However, the Patriots found their stride yet again, as Wessel answered with a 6-1, 6-4 win to make it 2-1.
The third and fourth points of the day came from the #1 and #2 lines, as both Bianchi and
Egor Shestakov worked their way to straight sets wins to give the Patriots the points necessary for the win. Bianchi finished off a 6-2, 7-5 win, while Shestakov dropped just three games on his way to a 6-3, 6-0 win.
Yudai Watanabe tacked on another win in line #6, as he added a 6-3, 6-1 victory as the Patriots continued to tack on the points. The final point of the day came at the hands of Lebdi in line #5, where he took a 6-2, 6-0 win.
UT Tyler will now head back on the road as they take on Lubbock Christian on Thursday, April 11 and then follow that match up with a Saturday contest against Midwestern State on April 13.
