TYLER, TEXAS – After dropping both sides of the doubleheader on Saturday, the Patriots pulled off a dramatic comeback win to steal a series split on Sunday against Cameron.
Action started early for the Aggies, as they hit a two run homer in each of the first two innings off of starter
Kolby Parker as they rumbled to a 4-0 lead.
Julio Garcia took over, and got a fielder's choice, a strikeout, and a caught stealing to end the inning.
The Aggies would add another run in the third, plating a run on an RBI single to make it 5-0. In the fifth, they added their biggest inning yet, as they got a two out solo home run to make it 6-0. Then an error extended the inning before an RBI double and then a two run home run made it 9-0 in favor of Cameron after just five innings.
The Patriots offense went down in order in each of the first two innings, but posted doubles in both the fourth and fifth innings and could not bring them around to score.
Both teams went scoreless in the sixth, but the Patriots finally got things rolling in the seventh.
Jordan Ardoin led off with a pinch hit double, and after a single and two walks, the Patriots had their first run of the game thanks to
Hayden Clearman's RBI walk.
Nathan Carriere drove home another with an RBI single of his own, and another run came around on a wild pitch. The big hit of the inning came from the bat of
Ethan Bedgood, who barreled up a double that scored three runs to make it 9-6.
In the eighth, the rally continued, as a single, a reached on error, and a walk loaded the bases with two outs.
Lane Hutchinson came up with a two RBI double and then Bedgood reached on an error that allowed a run to score and tie the game up at nine.
The Aggies got a pair on in the eighth inning before a fielder's choice, meaning
Nash Villegas would be lifted after going 2.2 innings and allowing just one hit.
Logan Henderson would take over, walking his first batter to load the bases, but came up clutch with two strikeouts to end the inning.
A double play killed the momentum for the Patriots in the ninth, and Henderson worked his way through a single and a walk to keep the Aggies scoreless to go into extras.
The Patriots would load the bases in the top of the 10
th, but were unable to plate a run. For the Aggies, they had a reach on an error and a walk, but Henderson struck out the side to keep them scoreless.
In the 11
th, the Patriots started with two singles from
Kyle Atkinson and
Drew Schmidt before a sacrifice bunt moved them into scoring position. Carriere drew a hit by pitch, and an RBI single from Hutchinson gave them a 10-9 lead.
Henderson trotted back out for the 11
th, and after a hit by pitch gave up the sacrifice bunt for the first out. The runner would move to third on a flyout to right field, but Henderson shut down the Aggies once and for all with a flyout to right field and the Patriots took the 10-9 win.
Logan Henderson picked up his first win of the year after closing out the game going 3.2 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out six.
Ethan Bedgood led the way for the Patriots with a 3-for-7 effort that included four RBI on the day.
Lane Hutchinson tacked on a 2-for-5 day with three RBI that included the game winning RBI in the 11
th.
UT Tyler will now return home and get ready for their first non-conference matchup of the year, as they take on Southern Arkansas on the road on Tuesday afternoon.
