SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – UT Tyler track and field continues to put together a brilliant effort in the outdoor season as they wrapped up the David Nobles Relays on Saturday.
The day began in the men's hammer throw, where
Dustin Earhart picked up an eighth place finish in the event after hitting a mark of 48.26 meters. That mark came on his fifth throw of the competition after he qualified for the finals.
Earhart would later post another strong effort, this time in the shot put. He posted a distance of 14.53 meters on his first throw of the competition, good enough to ride out all the way to fourth place on the day.
In the men's long jump,
MThabisi MPofu continued his big effort on the year, as he posted a second place finish after he jumped 7.12 meters in total on his third attempt.
The Patriots added yet another scoring finish in the women's javelin, as
Juliane Frueh hit a mark of 34.85 meters on just her first throw of the day to place sixth overall.
One of the best events of the day came in the women's pole vault, where two Patriots posted top five finishes in the competition.
Olivia Mitchell placed fourth, clearing the bar at a height of 3.42 meters. She was bested by teammate
Abeni Kratzmeyer, who cleared a height of 3.72 meters on her way to a second place finish in the event.
In the men's and women's afternoon edition of the 1,500 meters, the Patriots again had big success, putting together a trio of top 10 finishes. On the men's side, Dylan Navarette placed second after he completed the run in 4:14.91. For the Patriots women, both
Elayna Metzger and
Gracie Ladner placed fifth and ninth, respectively. Metzger ran a time of 5:05.86, while Ladner posted 5:12.48.
In the afternoon edition of the 800 meters, three more Patriots posted top 10 times on the day. On the men's side,
Gerald Rodriguez placed seventh in a time of 2:04.97, while
David Soto took home the top spot after running 1:57.33. On the women's side,
Makayla Bowman placed eighth overall after running a time of 2:31.02.
In one of the final field events for the Patriots,
Juliane Frueh shined yet again, this time in the high jump. She posted a mark of 1.70 meters to be the only competitor to clear the bar at that height and pick up a first place finish in the event.
The first finals track event of the day saw the men's steeplechase take the stage. There,
Seth Andrade competed for the Patriots, and he ran his way to a fifth place finish in a time of 11:25.25.
In the invite edition of the 1,500 meters,
Jacob Berryhill posted a top five run. He finished fourth overall in a time of 4:08.56 and missed out on third by just over a second.
In the 100 meter hurdles for the Patriots women, they had a pair of competitors post top eight finishes.
Isabel Jakobsen led the way, placing fifth overall in a time of 14.68. Following her was teammate
Lilly Wolf, who placed seventh overall.
Over in the men's 110 meter hurdles, both
Ashton Turner and
Brandon Arenas posted top eight finishes, as the pair finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Turner posted his fifth place finish in 14.20, while Arenas ran in 14.32 to finish sixth.
In the final event of the day,
Finley Hunting put together one last top five finish for the Patriots as she ran a time of 19:09.52 to run all the way up to third place.
UT Tyler will next battle it out in the Carl Kight Invitational and Multis next weekend, an event hosted by Stephen F. Austin. That meet will run April 12 and 13 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
