SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The UT Tyler men's and women's outdoor track and field programs recorded their best-ever finishes at the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a third-place finish on the men's side and a fourth-place finish on the women's side.
Ashton Turner claimed gold in both the 110 meter and 400 meter hurdle races to lead a men's side that completed the meet with 95 total points. The 4X400 relay team and
Aerin Thompson both found the podium on Saturday for a women's side that totaled 67 points in the meet.
Both UT Tyler track and field programs combined to find the podium a total of 15 times in the meet.
West Texas A&M claimed the 2024 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship on both the men's and women's side with 274 and 284.50 points, respectively.
Turner claimed gold in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.08 after previously breaking the UT Tyler school record in the event with a 14.01 in the prelims. He followed up that effort with a winning time of 52.34 in the 400 meter hurdles for his second gold medal of the afternoon.
Brandon Arenas and
Jeremiah Evans rounded out a great championship meet for the Patriots men's hurdlers as Arenas finished third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.34 and Evans a fourth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.03.
Nathan Williams, who helped the 4X100 meter relay team to a third-place finish with a time of 40.93, found the podium in the 200 meter race with a second-place finish and finished fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.55. Williams ran a school record time of 21.44 in the 200 meter and a school record time of 10.55 in the 100 meter dash.
David Soto finished within the top five in two different events as well, claiming third place in the men's 1,500 meter race with a time of 3:51.09 and a fifth place finish in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 14:57.52.
Dustin Earhart added five more points to the men's total with a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 14.29 meters.
William Davis finished fifth in the 800 meter race with a time of 1:51.08 and
Nicholas Davis a sixth place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.72 to round out the point scorers for the men's side.
The women's 4X400 meter relay team of
Isabel Jakobsen,
Jasmine Haywood,
Kamaria Carr and
Aerin Thompson claimed a silver medal with a time of 3:43.95 on Saturday, finishing second to a meet record time of 3:38.36 by Angelo State. Thompson ran a school-record time of 53.02 in the 400 meter dash to claim third place and improved her NCAA Division II provisional mark time to the fifth-fastest time in the country.
Jakobsen added points to the team total in two additional races, taking fourth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.53 and eighth place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.39.
Lilly Wolf earned a point for the team score in the 400 meter hurdles as well with an eighth place finish after a time of 14.92.
Brooklyn House also notched an eighth place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.99 meters.
