EMPORIA, KANSAS – A fantastic week has come to a close for UT Tyler women's track and field as they continue to push the benchmark even further for their program.
Aerin Thompson, competing in the 200, 400, and as a member of the 4x400 meter relay team, got the week started on Thursday as she participated in the preliminary round of the 400 meters. She put up the second fastest time in her heat, ensuring her spot in the finals on Saturday.
On Friday, she took part in the 200 meter prelims. She placed 19
th overall, just over four tenths of a second outside of qualification into the finals. However, she was not done for the day, as she and teammates
Kamaria Carr,
Jasmine Haywood, and
Isabel Jakobsen competed in the 4x400 meter relay prelims.
The Patriots ran a time of 3:40.43, finishing just one one-hundreth of a second out of an automatic qualifying position as they finished third in their heat. As a group, they placed 10
th overall, earning Second Team All-American honors for their efforts.
On Saturday,
Juliane Frueh would compete for the Patriots in the high jump as she was the first athlete on the track for the program. She cleared heights of 1.61 and 1.66 on her first attempt, immediately placing her in the top half of competitors. She followed that up by clearing 1.71 meters in two attempts, moving her into a tie for seventh.
It was there that she would finish, as she was unable to clear 1.74 meters. However, her top eight finish ensures that she is a First Team All-American.
Thompson would close out the meet for the Patriots in the 400 meters, where she ran a new school record time of 53.02. That time put her sixth overall, just .28 seconds outside of the top five on the day, but also ensuring First Team All-American honors.
