TYLER, TEXAS – The UT Tyler women's soccer team earned a result in their Lone Star Conference opener on Wednesday night with a 0-0 tie against St. Edward's.
The Patriots rattled the post twice, once in each half, and controlled possession for the majority of the contest. With the result, the Patriots have gotten off to the best start in program history with a 5-0-1 record through their first six matches of 2024.
Senior
Launa Torrez put forth a quality chance in the 18
th minute on the Patriot's first shot attempt of the night. That effort was answered by the Hilltoppers keeper, but generated momentum for UT Tyler to the tune of four first half shots.
Freshman
Ella Anderson found the woodwork for the first time in the match for the Patriots in the 38
th minute, the first of her two shot attempts in the waning minutes of the first half.
UT Tyler picked up the pace in the second half of action, posting 10 shot attempts, seven of which came within the first 10 minutes coming out of the halftime break. Senior
Alyssa Palisi hit the post for a second time in the match for UT Tyler in the 71
st minute in what was the Patriot's best chance to break the 0-0 tie.
UT Tyler's defensive backline was rock solid throughout the evening. Keeper
Emily Clark answered the only shot on target for the Hilltoppers in the match in the first four minutes of the match as that defensive unit didn't allow any real chances for the entirety of the contest.
UT Tyler has conceded just a single goal in their six matches thus far.
The Patriots out-shot St. Edward's by a 14-to-8 margin. Anderson and sophomore
Marin Love led UT Tyler with three shot attempts in the game.
UT Tyler will stay in Lone Star Conference play on Saturday, making their first league road trip for an 11 a.m. kick-off against Midwestern State.
