LAST TIME OUT

Last week, the Patriots played to a record of 1-1 as they battled it out with St. Edward's and St. Mary's. Against the Hilltoppers, the Patriots battled tightly all game long, with the largest lead of the game being just seven points. Mareng Gatkuoth scored 29 points and made seven three pointers for the Patriots, leading them to a 75-72 win.

Against the Rattlers, the Patriots found themselves in a defensive slugfest, with just one player scoring in double figures for either team. In the end, the Rattlers dropped in the free throws they needed to control the game and came away with a 57-53 win.

PATRIOTS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • UT Tyler is 7-8 on the season and 4-5 in LSC play.
  • The Patriots have now surpassed their win total from the 2023-24 season. One of those is a win over Regis, which doubles as an in-region victory and a win over the team picked third in the preseason RMAC poll.
  • Head coach Tim Moser is in his second season as head coach of the program. Moser returns to the men's side of the collegiate game after serving as the Associate Head Coach for a remarkable turnaround within the UT Tyler women's basketball program.  As a head coach, Moser holds a 520-207 career record and has won 13 conference championships en route to 12 conference or region coach of the year accolades. Combined with his totals as an assistant coach, Moser has coached 20 conference championship teams during his storied career. He has served as head coach on the men's side at Eastern Wyoming College from 2018-2021 and at Otero Junior College from 1998-2005. He went 150-33 (.828) over six seasons as head coach of the women's side at Alaska-Anchorage from 2006-12.
  • As we reach the midpoint of the season, the Patriots are putting together a dominant defense at the national level. They rank 8th nationally in field goal percentage defense, 5th in three point percentage defense, 14th in scoring defense, and 38th in blocks per game.
  • Individually, Dontrell Hewlett ranks inside the top 12 in the LSC in assist/turnover ratio (11th), total assists (7th) and assists per game (7th). Sam Phipps ranks 4th in both blocks and blocks per game and also ranks 5th in offensive rebounds per game.

DUSTDEVILS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • Texas A&M International stands at 8-10 on the year and 3-6 in LSC play. They have currently dropped three of their last four LSC contests, with the lone win coming over Oklahoma Christian.
  • As a team, the Dustdevils are scoring 65.7 points per game while allowing 65.2 points per game. They are shooting 42.9% from the field and and 32.5% from three while allowing their opponents to shooting 44.3% and 31.8%, respectively.
  • They are led on offense by Anthony Ignowski, who is scoring 11.7 points per game on 49% shooting. He is second on the team in assists and third in total steals.
  • Head coach Mac McConnell is in his fifth season with the program and has compiled a record of 58-62. He holds a career record of 71-101 in his seven seasons.
