The Patriots dip back into the top 10 in one poll as they hit the road for a critical LSC road test.

LAST TIME OUT
 
Last weekend saw the Patriots face off with St. Edward's and St. Mary's inside the HPC, and the Patriots came away with two wins. Against the Hilltoppers, Meagan Mendazona took charge, scoring 25 points on 8-for-14 shooting to help lead the Patriots to dominant 60-45 win. Against the Rattlers, the Patriots slipped into a defensive struggle, as neither side found much footing on offense as the Patriots took a 37-31 win.
 
NATIONAL POLLS
 
The Patriots moved up in each of the top 25 national polls this week, marked by a return to the top 10 in the D2CSC poll. The Patriots moved to #10 in that poll and return to the top 10 for the first time since the week four edition of the poll.
 
In the WBCA poll, the Patriots moved up one spot to #13 in the rankings, which is now their highest placement of the season.
 
PATRIOTS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • UT Tyler finished the 2023-24 season 27-9 overall and made their second consecutive NCAA Sweet 16. That win mark is tied for the most in the NCAA Division II era of the program. The Patriots are the only team in the South Central Region to win a game in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments.
  • Last season the Patriots finished 13-2 on their home floor and are now 7-1 this season, raising their mark to 42-7 under head coach Rebecca Alvidrez inside the Herrington Patriot Center.
  • In the last four seasons (including 2024-25), the Patriots are a combined 31-13 in non-conference matchups, including a 12-3 record at home in non-conference games.
  • Head Coach Rebecca Alvidrez is now 95-47 all time in her four season career, and she is 86-28 in her time at UT Tyler.
  • The early part of the year has shown the Patriots dominant defense again, as they rank inside the top 30 nationally in field goal percentage defense (2th), scoring defense (4th), scoring margin (29th), and three point percentage defense (14th).
  • On the offensive side, the Patriots have hit their stride, now ranking inside the top 50 nationally in three pointers per game (29th), assist/turnover ratio (36th), and free throw percentage (32nd).
 
DUSTDEVILS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • Texas A&M International is just 3-12 on the season and 2-7 in LSC play. They won their most recent contest against Cameron and have won two of their last four.
  • The Dustdevils are averaging 62.1 points per game on 38% shooting and 28% shooting from beyond the arc. Their opponents are scoring 68.3 points per game on 41.7% shooting and 28.9% from beyond the arc.
  • Trinity Chears leads the offense for the Dustdevils as she averages 13.1 points per game on 39% shooting. She has totaled 21 assists and 18 steals on the year.
  • Head coach Jaida Williams is in her first year with the program. Previously she served as head coach at Coastal Carolina from 2013-2022.
  • UT Tyler leads the all-time series at 7-1 and have won each of the last five games. The Patriots are 3-1 in Laredo.
 
JAVELINAS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • Texas A&M-Kingsville is 10-5 on the year and 6-3 in LSC play. They have won their last five contests with four of those coming against LSC opponents.
  • The Javelinas are scoring 61.3 points per game while allowing 53.7 points per game. They are shooting 43.5% from the floor and 33.6% from deep. Their opponents are shooting 37.1% from the floor and 32.4% from deep.
  • Shelby Ray and Logan Borchardt lead the offense at 11.6 and 11.3 points per game, respectively. Ray is shooting 45.2% from the floor while leading the team in rebounding at 6.7 per game. Bochardt has posted 16 assists and 11 steals while shooting 40.7% from the floor.
  • Michael Madrid is at the helm of the program and is in his sixth season of his career, all with the Javelinas. He holds a record of 70-71 in those six seasons.
  • The two teams are an even 4-4 all-time against each other, but the Patriots have taken each of the last three games.
