Men’s Basketball Hosts Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M in Pivotal LSC Matchups

The Patriots will host the Greyhounds and Buffs to begin a four game homestand inside the HPC.

LAST TIME OUT

Last week the Patriots battled it out with Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville. Against the Dustdevils, the Patriots whittled down their lead throughout the second half before taking the lead in the closing minutes. However, a late bucket from the Dustdevils with just seven seconds left gave them the one point edge and the win. Against the Javelinas, the Patriots fell victim to hot shooting, with the Javelinas scoring 40 first half points on their way to a 14 point win.

PATRIOTS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • UT Tyler is 7-10 on the season and 4-7 in LSC play.
  • The Patriots have now surpassed their win total from the 2023-24 season. One of those is a win over Regis, which doubles as an in-region victory and a win over the team picked third in the preseason RMAC poll.
  • Head coach Tim Moser is in his second season as head coach of the program. Moser returns to the men's side of the collegiate game after serving as the Associate Head Coach for a remarkable turnaround within the UT Tyler women's basketball program.  As a head coach, Moser holds a 520-209 career record and has won 13 conference championships en route to 12 conference or region coach of the year accolades. Combined with his totals as an assistant coach, Moser has coached 20 conference championship teams during his storied career. He has served as head coach on the men's side at Eastern Wyoming College from 2018-2021 and at Otero Junior College from 1998-2005. He went 150-33 (.828) over six seasons as head coach of the women's side at Alaska-Anchorage from 2006-12.
  • As we reach the midpoint of the season, the Patriots are putting together a dominant defense at the national level. They rank 9th nationally in field goal percentage defense, 7th in three point percentage defense, 16th in scoring defense, and 43rd in blocks per game.
  • Individually, Dontrell Hewlett ranks inside the top 12 in the LSC in assist/turnover ratio (11th), total assists (9th) and assists per game (9th). Sam Phipps ranks 5th in both blocks and blocks per game and also ranks 6th in offensive rebounds per game.

GREYHOUNDS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • Eastern New Mexico is 11-6 on the year and 6-5 in LSC play. They have won three of their last five games, including a 29 point win over Western New Mexico in their most recent contest.

  • Five players average double figures for the program, led by Mario Whitley at 14.5 points per game. He is shooting at a 49% clip while leading the team at 9.3 rebounds per game.
  • Daven Võ is the head coach of the Greyhounds and is in his first season. He previously served as the associate head coach at UCCS and was also an assistant coach for the Greyhounds from 2020-2023.
  • The all-time series between the two teams is 2-2, with the Greyhounds taking the last two. The Patriots lead 2-1 in games played in Tyler.
