RICHARDSON, TEXAS – UT Tyler cross country freshman Grayson Williams has been named the Lone Star Conference Freshman Runner of the Week for the second time this season following his standout performance at the DBU Old Glory Gallop.
Williams, a finance major from Troy, Texas, previously earned the honor in the opening week of the season after finishing fourth at the UT Tyler Cross Country Opener. He doubled his awards this week after another strong showing in a competitive field hosted by DBU.
The freshman finished 19th overall with a time of 24:37.25 in the 8K, going head-to-head with 401 total runners. After sitting in 57th place at the 5K mark, Williams surged over the final stretch to climb 38 spots, finishing as the fastest freshman in the Lone Star Conference for the week. His effort helped lead UT Tyler to a seventh-place finish out of 43 teams, ranking second among all LSC programs at the meet.
Williams made history with the honor, becoming the first freshman in program history to earn multiple LSC Freshman of the Week awards in a single season since UT Tyler joined the Lone Star Conference and the NCAA Division II ranks.
The Patriots will now turn their attention to the Lone Star Conference Championships, set for October 25 at AP Ranch in Fort Worth, Texas.
