TYLER, TEXAS – Brittany King will be one of five inductees into the UT Tyler Hall of Fame, marking another historic class that will be forever remembered on campus.
"I am really appreciative of being selected. I am thankful for the teammates I had along the journey and I feel like this is something I can share with them since I am still very close with those friends and teammates to this day."
King played one year for Cisco College after a standout prep career in Dallas, Texas before coming to the Patriots from 2005-2008. She played against and with a few teammates that she joined at UT Tyler, and felt like it was destiny that everyone came together for the Patriots to help push the program to a new level.
She stands as one of the two All-America honorees in program history, earning the D3Hoops.com honor after her junior season in 2014. She was named an All-ASC performer three times, and earned All-ASC Defensive Team honors in 2015. She was the anchor to the team that made their first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2014, heading all the way to the Sweet 16. She leads the program's record books in field goal percentage, free throws made, and rebounds, and is second in scoring average and third in career points.
That 2013-14 team was the first team in program history to appear in the NCAA Tournament, and was also the first team to win the ASC Regular Season title and the ASC Tournament.
"A moment that sticks out is during that junior season. We lost to Hardin-Simmons on a Thursday and had a team meeting led by the seniors immediately afterwards. That meeting really built us into a family and led us to that 14 game winning streak and an appearance in the Sweet 16."
The UT Tyler program had a lasting impact on King, even after college. She credits the team for becoming her big family, and she still texts and talks to them on a regular basis. "When I come to Texas, they are still the first people I see and we still talk about our memories on and off the court."
Another person that King credits is one of her assistant coaches, Coach Little (Rosansky). King didn't play a ton her first year, and after a talk with Coach Little, she grew confidence and felt pushed to take the next step with her game. "Coach Little was always willing to go the extra mile for me in the gym and off the floor. Her family was always there to support me and help me with anything I needed, and they had a huge influence on my career."
Brittany King has left a lasting legacy all over the record books and on the banners that still hang in the Herrington Patriot Center, but this induction isn't a reflection of her.
"I don't necessarily care about myself, but the teams and what they left as their legacy. I might be up there in the record books in a lot of stats, but those will go away. I want to be known as a great teammate, but when I think about going into the hall of fame, I think about my teammates going in with me. I want to be remembered as a part of those great teams."
