Patriots Set FG Record, Tie Scoring Mark in 119–67 Win

UT Tyler pours in 119 points to tie the program record and sets a new mark with 50 made field goals in a 119–67 win over Our Lady of the Lake.

TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's basketball delivered one of the most dominant and efficient performances in program history on Monday night, overwhelming Our Lady of the Lake 119–67 behind a 61-percent shooting effort, six double-figure scorers, and a defensive showcase that produced 17 steals. The Patriots tied the program record for points in a game, matching the 119 scored in 2012, and set a new school record with 50 made field goals in the win.

UT Tyler seized control from the opening tip, unleashing a devastating 24–3 run in the first six minutes fueled by defensive pressure and transition pace. Jacob Bell opened the scoring with a putback, Kyle Morgan converted a fastbreak layup moments later, and Sam Phipps dominated early on the defensive glass, assisting on a Suarjaya finish that made it 6–0. Phipps added a jumper in the paint, Williams scored in transition to stretch it to 10–0, and the Patriots continued piling on after back-to-back steals—first with a Phipps fastbreak layup, then a Morgan layup off another turnover. After an OLLU three briefly stopped the bleeding, Morgan answered with a three of his own, Phipps completed an and-one, and UT Tyler capped the surge with layups from Bell and Williams to complete the 24–3 blitz.

The Patriots forced nine turnovers in the first half, turning long rebounds and live-ball giveaways into 23 fastbreak points before the break. Barbee delivered one of the highlights of the half with a two-handed transition dunk off a Carpenter feed, and late production from Emfinger—including a tip-in and fastbreak finish—sent UT Tyler into halftime leading 55–35.

The second half opened with UT Tyler immediately reasserting its pace. After OLLU knocked down a three, Morgan answered quickly with a triple of his own, and a Phipps steal set up a Suarjaya three that rebuilt a 23-point margin. Phipps continued to control the paint with two more finishes inside, and at the 14:58 mark, Kapanadze buried a catch-and-shoot three from the right wing. Morgan added a mid-range jumper before another Phipps steal led to a Kapanadze fastbreak three, stretching the Patriots lead to 73–47.

UT Tyler broke the game open completely with a 12–2 run midway through the half. Anderson scored from the baseline, Morgan pushed in transition to set up Boston Caldwell for a fastbreak three—one of his two triples on the night—and Caldwell followed with a jumper to extend the margin past 30. Moments later, Anderson hammered home a fastbreak dunk off a Barbee assist, and Emfinger drilled a transition three to make it 85–47.

The Patriots' depth continued to overwhelm OLLU in the final 10 minutes. Barbee and Emfinger each converted fastbreak layups, Tenner added a tip-in off an offensive board, and Caldwell knocked down his second three at the 5:07 mark to push UT Tyler past 108 points. In the closing minutes, Kapanadze scored three times in transition, including a corner three at 1:10 that lifted the Patriots to 119 points, matching the program record set in 2012.

UT Tyler closed the night shooting 50-of-82 (61%), 11-of-28 (39%) from three, and dominating the paint with 76 points inside while winning the rebounding battle 56–22. The Patriots 30 assists marked the highest single-game totals in the program's Division II era.

Phipps paced UT Tyler with 13 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Barbee and Kapanadze each scored 15, Morgan added 12 points and two steals, Emfinger had 11 with four steals, and Williams chipped in 10 points and four assists. Fourteen different Patriots scored.

The win improves UT Tyler to 3–0 as they continue non-conference play, facing Our Lady of the Lake again tomorrow at 4:00 inside the HPC.
