The Patriots continue Lone Star Conference play as they host the Hilltoppers for Holiday Hoopla.

HOLIDAY HOOPLA

This weekends games will be the annual UT Tyler Holiday Hoopla, with both the men's and women's programs taking on St. Edward's. Admission will be free with canned food, and you can earn a UT Tyler beanie with a donation of a new, unwrapped toy. Activities will include free pictures with Santa, cupcakes, cookies, and hot chocolate, an ugly Christmas sweater contest, and holiday themed games.

PATRIOTS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • UT Tyler finished the 2024–25 season 8–20 overall and 5–17 in Lone Star Conference play, but the Patriots were competitive throughout the year with 12 games decided by 10 points or fewer.
  • Last season the Patriots went 5–10 on their home floor, 3–8 on the road, and 0–2 at neutral sites. UT Tyler finished non-conference play with a 3–3 record.
  • Of the 12 games decided by 10 points or fewer, the Patriots were within a single possession in the final minutes in a handful of those contests and held second-half leads in several.
  • UT Tyler returns four athletes from last year, including LSC Male Athletic Performance Athlete of the Year Sam Phipps, along with Hudson AndersonPatrick Carr, and Mate Kapanadze.
  • The Patriots add four junior college transfers—Chris CarpenterXavier WilliamsSean Emfinger, and Kyle Morgan—each arriving from strong JUCO programs and bringing toughness, size, and proven winning habits.
  • Transfer guard Boston Caldwell joins the Patriots after producing at both the junior college and Division III levels and is expected to contribute immediately.
  • A strong group of Australian newcomers also joins the roster, including freshmen Noah SuarjayaHeath Tenner, and Spencer Gaze, along with Greg Fowlds and Jacob Bell. The group is expected to boost the team's shooting, depth, and overall skill level.
  • The Patriots are 4-2 to start the year while shooting 47.7% from the field and 32.8% from deep while grabbing 42.5 rebounds per game and forcing 13.5 turnovers per game.
  • Kyle Morgan leads the Patriots with 13.2 points per game on 49.2% shooting and continues to be the team's top perimeter threat with 12 threes at a 44.4% clip. Sam Phipps controls the interior with 8.3 rebounds per game and a team-best eight blocks, while Noah Suarjaya steers the offense with a 24-to-14 assist-to-turnover ratio.
LSC PRESEASON POLL

In the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll, the Patriots received 260 points to land at No. 14 in the annual preseason rankings. Dallas Baptist University (DBU) was chosen as the preseason favorite after earning 850 total points and 42 first-place votes.

THE HILLTOPPERS

The Patriots continue their LSC schedule this week with their first home conference matchup against number 14 ranked St. Edward's on Saturday evening at 3:00 p.m. The Hilltoppers are 10-1 on the year and are 1-1 in conference play so far this year.

They're averaging 81.1 points per game while holding opponents to 64.7, shooting 44.9% from the floor and 31.5% from three. Ryder Bradley leads the charge offensively with 14.3 points per game on 48.2% shooting and a team-best 35 made free throws. Kay Jamison anchors the interior with a team-high 58 rebounds, adds 10.1 points per game, and contributes six blocks and eight steals.

UT Tyler is 2-8 in the all-time series that dates back to 2019. The Patriots lost their last matchup with the Hilltoppers on 1/9/2025 by a score of 86-64. However, the Patriots two wins in the series have both came when the Hilltoppers went on the road.
