Men’s Basketball will Host Javelinas and Dustdevils in Final Home Contests

The Patriots have just two home games left on the docket as they welcome Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International to Tyler.

LAST TIME OUT

Last week the Patriots took on LSC leader St. Mary's and St. Edward's on the road. In a bid at an upset of the Rattlers, the Patriots battled close throughout the contest and went into double overtime to decide the contest, but a late run in that final overtime period gave the Rattlers the win. Against the Hilltoppers, the Patriots stayed within arms reach throughout the first half, but a scorching second half from St. Edward's allowed them to pull away with the win.

SENIOR NIGHT

On Saturday afternoon immediately following the conclusion of the women's contest, the Patriots will host their senior night. There, they will honor Nikolas Gustavson, Arnaud Revazm Dontrell Hewlett, Mareng Gatkuoth, Ryan Swan, Juan Pablo Camargo, and David Ayala for each of their contributions to the program.

PATRIOTS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • UT Tyler is 8-15 on the season and 5-12 in LSC play.
  • The Patriots have now surpassed their win total from the 2023-24 season. One of those is a win over Regis, which doubles as an in-region victory and a win over the team picked third in the preseason RMAC poll.
  • Head coach Tim Moser is in his second season as head coach of the program. Moser returns to the men's side of the collegiate game after serving as the Associate Head Coach for a remarkable turnaround within the UT Tyler women's basketball program.  As a head coach, Moser holds a 521-214 career record and has won 13 conference championships en route to 12 conference or region coach of the year accolades. Combined with his totals as an assistant coach, Moser has coached 20 conference championship teams during his storied career. He has served as head coach on the men's side at Eastern Wyoming College from 2018-2021 and at Otero Junior College from 1998-2005. He went 150-33 (.828) over six seasons as head coach of the women's side at Alaska-Anchorage from 2006-12.
  • The Patriots are putting together a dominant defense at the national level thus far this season. They rank 20th nationally in field goal percentage defense, 35th in three point percentage defense, 53rd in scoring defense, and 54th in blocks per game.
  • Individually, Dontrell Hewlett ranks inside the top 12 in the LSC in assist/turnover ratio (11th), and assists per game (12th). Sam Phipps ranks 5th in blocks and 6th in blocks per game and is also 5th in offensive rebounds per game.

JAVELINAS NOTES AND TRENDS
  • Texas A&M-Kingsville is 10-13 on the year and 6-11 heading into this week's action. They won their most recent contest against Cameron but lost their previous three games.
