Box Score 2 TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's and women's tennis moved to 2-0 on the year after each program took down Harding on Sunday afternoon at the Summers Tennis Center.
On the women's side, the Bisons got themselves on the board first as they took a dramatic doubles point. The Patriots took the #2 line in a 6-0 win, but the Bisons responded with a 7-5 win in line #3. That set up the winner take all match in line #1, and the Bisons took a dramatic win by a score 7-6 (9-7) to move to singles ahead 1-0.
Despite the early lead from the Bisons, the Patriots responded well in singles by rattling off a pair of wins and taking the lead in the match.
Allison Schwartz led that charge with a 6-1, 6-2 straight sets win in line #3. She was followed quickly by
Natalia Gorzny, who earned a 6-4, 6-1 straight sets win to lead to a 2-1 lead.
The Bisons would take line #2 to tie the match back up, but the Patriots would not alow another point from their opponents on their way to a 4-2 win. That win was sealed in the #5 and #6 lines, as
Paula Castellanos and
Luisa Moraes picked up wins.
Castellanos earned her win by scores of 6-3 and 6-2, and Moraes won in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 6-2.
Over on the men's side of the match, the Patriots would jump into an early lead as they picked up the doubles point.
Arthur Miquelard and
Job Japelj earned a 6-1 win in line #3, and
Carel Wessel and
Daniil Felker earned a 6-2 win in line #1 to take a 1-0 lead.
The Bisons earned the first point of singles after a three set affair in the #2 line, but the Patriots responded with three straight wins in lines 1, 3, and 5 to earn the 4-1 win.
That charge was led by Wessel in the #1 line, and he earned a big three set win to regain the lead for the Patriots. After dropping a close first set 7-6 (7-4), he rattled off wins of 6-3 and 6-4 for the match victory.
Artiom Dorofeev would also drop his first set in line #3, this time by a score of 6-4. He responded to that set with a 7-6 (11-9) second set win, and then he kept the momentum going with a 6-3 win in the third and final set to pick up his victory.
Malo Poulesquen earned the final point of the day for the Patriots in the #5 line. He stepped on to the court and looked dominant, earning wins of 6-3 and 6-1 to put together a straight sets victory.
UT Tyler will now close out their home opening weekend on Monday morning as they host Delta State at the Summers Tennis Center at 11 a.m.
