Tennis Sweeps Delta State to Move to 3-0

Both men’s and women’s programs cruised to wins on Monday afternoon to close out their opening weekend of 2025.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TYLER, TEXAS – Both sides of the UT Tyler tennis program moved to 3-0 with their wins over Delta State on Monday afternoon at Summers Tennis Center.

Both sides played their way to 4-0 sweeps of the Statesmen to close out the opening weekend.

On the women's side, the Patriots closed off a quick and dominant doubles point as the #1 and #3 lines pulled off big wins. Yona Bancarel and Kanika Sivaraman combined in the #1 line for a 6-1 win, and Emily Ryan and Allison Schwartz combined for a 6-2 win in the #3 line.

That dominance would continue over into singles, as the Patriots would play the minimum number of matches in the contest. Natalia Gorzny led off with a straight sets 6-3, 6-0 win in just 56 minutes in the #3 line to make it 2-0.

Right behind her, Bancarel earned a 6-2, 6-1 straight sets win in line #1 and would see Sivaraman follow with her own straight sets win by scores of 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.

That win for the Patriots women books a 3-0 weekend at the Summers Tennis Center.

On the men's side, the Patriots would also capitalize on a strong doubles run to build momentum into their 4-0 win. Artiom Dorofeev and Malo Poulesquen delivered the first doubles win by a score of 6-2 in the #2 line. Just a few minutes later, that doubles point was wrapped up with a 6-4 victory in the #1 line by Daniil Felker and Carel Wessel.

In singles, the Patriots landslide continued as they took the #2, #3, and #4 lines on their way to their own 4-0 sweep. Each of those matches were straight set victories, with Martin Despodov earning his win in the #2 line by scores of 6-2, 6-1.

Poulesquen in line #3 would blank his opponent 6-0 in the first set, and followed up with a 6-2 win. Jordi Garcia Portell found his stride in line #4, picking up a 6-2, 6-1 straight sets win to give the Patriots their 4-0 win.

The Patriots will now stay at the friendly confines of the Summers Tennis Center as they host West Florida, West Alabama, and Auburn Montgomery in their second straight home weekend. That weekend begins on Friday at 11 a.m. as the Patriots host the Argonauts.
