AUSTIN, TEXAS - #6/7 UT Tyler women's basketball took down St. Edward's 65-54 on Saturday afternoon to sweep the season series between the two teams.
The Patriots got double digit contributions from
Polina Latysheva,
Ella Bradley, and
Lovisa Hevinder as the trio combined for 37 points on the day. Latysheva led all scorers with 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting while connecting on four three pointers.
The Patriots outscored the Hilltoppers in three of the four quarters on the day as they shot 46% from the field and 44% from beyond the arc as they made 12 three pointers.
That hot shooting began in the first quarter, outscoring St. Edward's 19-16 as they made seven of their first 16 shots and made a trio of three pointers. That hot shooting stalled in the second quarter, as the Patriots mustered just nine points and three made shots while the Hilltoppers scored 15 points and took a slim two point lead heading into the halftime break.
The Patriots came roaring back in the third quarter, outscoring the Hilltoppers 20-7 as they shot 53% from the floor, 50% from deep, and holding them on defense to just 2-for-11 and no made three pointers. Six different players scored in the period for the Patriots, as Bradley and Latysheva each scored five points to lead the team.
The Patriots in the fourth quarter shot an even 50% from the field and 50% from deep to hold off the late charge from the Hilltoppers. Bradley scored six more points in the period and
Tianna Knighton added in four as the Patriots took a 65-54 win.
Hevinder scored 10 points and added a team-high nine rebounds and also chipped in three assists. Bradley scored 13 points and record five rebounds, four steals, and a block.
#6/7 UT Tyler will now return back to Tyler on Thursday as they host Texas A&M-Kingsville inside the Herrington Patriot Center.
