Box Score 3 ARKADELPHIA, ARKANSAS – UT Tyler tennis put together a 3-0 day between the two teams as they took down Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist on Friday in the Natural State.
WOMEN'S MATCH ONE
The Patriots women would square off with Henderson State to begin the day, and they were nothing short of dominant in their efforts.
They would quickly work through the doubles matches, taking a 6-0 win by the work of
Natalia Gorzny and
Paula Castellanos and then adding a 6-3 win from
Yona Bancarel and
Kanika Sivaraman to move ahead 1-0.
Over in singles, the Patriots landslide continued as Castellanos earned a 6-3, 6-0 straight sets win to move the Patriots ahead 2-0.
She was quickly followed by
Luisa Moraes and
Carla Rodier, who each earned straight set wins of their own to give the Patriots a 4-0 sweep. Moraes took her match in scores of 6-4, 6-3, and Rodier earned a win with scores of 6-4, 6-1.
WOMEN'S MATCH TWO
The Patriots women would take on Ouachita Baptist in their second match of the day, this one taking place in the early afternoon.
Yet again they would take the 1-0 lead heading into singles, as the same two doubles pairs put together wins in line #2 and #3. Gorzny and Castellanos delivered a 6-1 win, and Bancarel and Sivaraman put together a 6-2 win in a pair of dominant showings.
Over in singles, Rodier and Moraes again found their strides, delivering two quick wins as the Patriots led 3-0. Rodier would earn her win by scores of 6-2, 6-1 in line #2, and Moraes earned a straight sets win of 6-3, 6-2 in line #5.
The Tigers would get themselves on the board with a straight sets win in line #1, but
Kanika Sivaraman would ensure the Patriots victory as she put together a 6-4, 6-2 straight sets win to earn the fourth point for the Patriots and put them ahead 4-1.
Paula Castellanos would add another point in line #3, winning her match in scores of 6-3, 6-4. She would be joined by
Elisa Buhagiar, who won her match 7-6 (7-0), 6-3 for the sixth and final point of the Patriots 6-1 win.
MEN'S MATCH
Sandwiched in-between the two women's matches, the Patriots men would also take on Ouachita Baptist at noon on Friday. Just like the Patriots women, they would also take a 1-0 lead into singles as they took a pair of doubles victories.
Malo Poulesquen and
Artiom Dorofeev earned a 6-4 win in line #2, and
Carel Wessel and
Daniil Felker would also take a 6-4 win, this time in line #1.
Over in singles, the Tigers would strike back, taking wins in line #1 and #3 as they jumped ahead to a 2-1 lead with straight sets win.
Poulesquen would stem the tide, earning a 6-3, 7-5 straight sets win in line #5 to even the match at 2-2.
That match flipped momentum for the Patriots, as they closed out the match with three straight wins to earn the 5-2 win.
Artiom Dorofeev would take his first set 6-1, but dropped the second set 6-7 (4-7). However, he rallied with a 6-4 win in set three to earn his win. Right behind him was
Daniil Felker, who took a gritty first set at 7-6 (9-7), before falling 3-6 in set two. He responded in the third, earning a 7-6 (7-3) win in dramatic fashion.
The final Patriots point would come from
Jordi Garcia Portell, who earned a win in line #6. He took the first set 6-3, but the Tigers responded with a 1-6 win in set two. That forced a third set tiebreaker, and Garcia Portell rolled to a 10-1 victory to put the Patriots ahead 5-2.
Both teams will now stay in the Natural State for one final match on Saturday, as they head south to Magnolia to take on Southern Arkansas.
