Patriots Split Action with Ranked Lopers in Florida

The Patriots men earned a key ranked win, and the Patriots women fell just short in a close battle on Thursday.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ORLANDO, FLORIDA – UT Tyler tennis split their final action of the week in Florida with Nebraska-Kearney as the men picked up a 5-2 win and the women fell 4-3.
 
MEN'S MATCH: #8 UT Tyler: 5, #29 Nebraska-Kearney: 2
 
The Patriots men would begin their battle in doubles, as the #29 Lopers took a 6-2 win in line #2 to put the Patriots on the back foot. Carel Wessel and Daniil Felker evened up the count with a 6-2 win in line #1, and Arthur Miquelard and Trevor Short delivered a clutch 7-6 (7-5) win in line #3 to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead after the comeback.
 
Over in singles, the Patriots began to pour it on, taking each of the first four matches to run their lead out to 5-0 and ensure the win. Malo Poulesquen earning a 6-2, 6-1 straight sets win that took less than an hour.
 
Wessel would follow in line #1, earning a 6-4, 6-4 straight sets win. Martin Despodov and Artiom Dorofeev would also add straight sets wins, with Despodov winning 6-2 7-6 (10-8) and Dorofeev earning a 6-2, 7-5 win.
 
The Lopers would add a win in the #6 line and then further in the #4 line, but ultimately the Patriots took a 5-2 win on the day.
 
WOMEN'S MATCH: #38 UT Tyler: 3, #14 Nebraska-Kearney: 4
 
The Lopers would take the early advantage by winning the doubles point, earning the #1 and #2 lines while Natalia Gorzny and Paula Castellanos earned a 6-1 win in line #3.
 
The Patriots battled back, getting a big win from Allison Schwartz in line #5 as she earned a 6-4, 6-3 straight sets win and then a win from Kanika Sivaraman in line #6 as she earned a 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 three set win.
 
The Lopers would battle back themselves in line #4 as the match was even at 2-2, but they ultimately earned wins in the #3 and #1 lines to earn their fourth point of the match and secure the close win.
 
The Patriots would add one final point on the day in line #2, as Gorzny finished off a marathon match in scores of 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 to make it a 4-3 final score.
 
Both sides of the program will now look ahead to the beginning of the Lone Star Conference slate. The women's side will begin their LSC matchups on March 27th as they take on Texas A&M-Kingsville on the road. The men's side will get a week off from competition before battling with Western New Mexico on April 4th at 10 a.m.
