Box Score KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – #33 UT Tyler women's tennis opened up their LSC slate with a 7-0 win over #49 Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday afternoon.
The Patriots began their day with a strong start in doubles, as
Allison Schwartz and
Carla Rodier earned a 6-1 win in line #2 and
Kanika Sivaraman and
Paula Castellanos combined for a 6-0 win in line #3 to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead heading into their singles matches.
In singles, the Patriots earned four straight sets wins as they would quickly earn the points necessary for the win before adding on two three set wins to complete the 7-0 sweep.
Natalia Gorzny led off action with a 6-4, 6-2 straight sets win in the #2 line, and she would be joined by Schwartz in the #5 line as she dropped just one game on her way to a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Sivaraman earned a 6-2, 6-1 win in line #6 to breeze her way to a win, and Castellanos would add a 6-3, 6-3 win in line #4 to cap off the straight sets winners for the Patriots and earn a 5-0 lead.
Rodier took a 6-2 win to open her match in line #3, but her opponent would answer with a 3-6 win to even the match. That forced a third set, but Rodier would comfortably close her match with a 6-3 win.
Yona Bancarel in line #1 would battle in a tight first set, but eventually fell 6-7 (2-7). She answered the call by earning a blistering 6-0 win in set two, and then rode the wave of momentum to a 6-2 win in the third set to cap off a Patriots 7-0 sweep.
The Patriots will next be in action on Saturday as they take on #18 Angelo State on the road in San Angelo at 12 p.m.
