#3 Patriots Fall to #6 Javelinas in LSC Quarterfinals

The Javelinas used hot shooting throughout the contest on the way to a nine point win at the LSC Tournament.

FRISCO, TEXAS – No. 3 seed UT Tyler women's basketball fell by a final score of 65-56 on Thursday afternoon to no. 6 seed Texas A&M-Kingsville in the quarterfinal round of the LSC Tournament.

The Javelinas shot 47.9% from the floor and 50% from the field while the Patriots shot just 35.6% from the floor and 19.2% from deep.

Ella Bradley led all scorers with 25 points as she went 10-for-18 from the field while adding three triples, five rebounds, and three steals. Mileina Sablinskaite scored 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting while scoring two three pointers and adding a team-high seven rebounds.

The Patriots got off to a hot start, leading 7-2 after the first two minutes as Bradley and Sablinskaite combined for the first seven points. However, the Javelinas went on a 15-5 run to close out the quarter to take a 17-14 lead heading into the second frame.

In that second quarter, both teams would continue their close battle as Sablinskaite added seven points in the quarter by herself. She would score all seven of those points on a 10-2 run for the Patriots over the final five minutes of the half. The Javelinas would hold a 14-12 advantage in the 10 minute period, rounding out a half that saw them shoot 50% from the floor and 60% from deep.

The third quarter saw the Javelinas continue their strong effort from the field, as they shot 50% from the floor and 60% from deep as they outscored the Patriots 19-15. Bradley was nearly perfect from the floor in the period, scoring 13 points and adding two three pointers as she kept the Patriots within range heading into the final period.

The Patriots opened the fourth quarter on a 9-5 run, capped off by an Ella Bradley and-one to cut the deficit down to just five points with 7:13 remaining. Meagan Mendazona added in a pair of free throws with 4:44 remaining to cut the lead back down to six points, but a 7-0 run from the Javelinas over the next three minutes and change would see them take control and allow them to hang on for the win.

UT Tyler will now await their NCAA Tournament fate with this weekend's results in both the LSC and RMAC conference tournaments. The NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament selection show will take place on Sunday, March 9th at 9:30 p.m. and will be aired live on NCAA.com.
