Chris Bizot earned his 600
th career win on Sunday as the Patriots swept Newman with a 4-1 win by the #22 ranked women and a 4-0 win by the #5 men.
The #22 ranked women picked up their 4-1 win through a strong start on Sunday as they picked up a pair of quick doubles wins to take a 1-0 lead.
Kanika Sivaraman and
Emily Ryan earned a 6-0 win in just 17 minutes in line #3, and they were followed by
Natalia Gorzny and
Paula Castellanos in line #2 as they earned a 6-2 win in line #2.
Castellanos trotted right back out for singles and was just as strong there, earning the first Patriots point in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 straight sets win that took just over an hour. She was followed by
Allison Schwartz in line #4, who earned a 6-3, 6-3 straight sets win to move the Patriots ahead 3-0.
Newman would earn a win in line #2 to put themselves on the board, but Natalia Gornzy would close out the match with a three set comeback win in line #1. After dropping the first set 2-6, she earned a 7-5 win and then followed it up with a 6-0 win in set three to book the 4-1 win.
In the men's match, the Patriots would not drop a point on the day as they cruised to a 4-0 win. That effort was led off in doubles as
Trevor Short and
Jordi Garcia Portell combined for a 6-0 win in line #3 before
Job Japelj and
Arthur Miquelard picked up a 7-5 straight sets win to move the Patriots in front 1-0.
In singles action, Garcia Portell continued the Patriots avalanche as he took just 45 minutes to dispact his opponent 6-0, 6-3. He was followed just five minutes later by
Artiom Dorofeev, who earned a 6-1, 6-3 straight sets win.
The final match of the day would conclude just minutes later, as
Martin Despodov wrapped up a 6-0, 6-4 straight sets win in just 57 minutes, meaning all three singles matches would end in less than an hour.
UT Tyler will next head to the Natural State as the men will face off with Ouachita Baptist and Southern Arkansas, and the women will add Henderson State in addition to the Tigers and Muleriders on Friday.
Those matches begin on Friday in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
