Box Score 2 LAWTON, OKLAHOMA – UT Tyler men's and women's tennis put a stamp on an impressive weekend as they each took their match over Cameron program on Friday afternoon in Oklahoma.
WOMEN'S MATCH: #23 UT Tyler: 4, Cameron: 3
In the women's match, the Patriots would take the early advantage as they got wins in bot the #1 and #3 doubles lines.
Kanika Sivaraman and
Paula Castellanos combined for an impressive 6-1 win in line #3, and the pair of
Yona Bancarel and
Natalia Gorzny earned a 6-4 win in line #1.
In singles, the Aggies fought back with a straight sets win in the #2 line, but
Allison Schwartz and Bancarel calmed the tide with a pair of straight sets wins of their own in the #5 and #1 lines to put the Patriots ahead 3-1. Schwartz took her match 6-0, 7-5, and Bancarel took a 6-4, 6-1 win.
With the two wins the Patriots stood on match point at 3-1, but the Aggies came fighting back again, taking both the #3 and #4 lines to even the match. That would put the match in the hands of the #6 line, and
Luisa Moraes came through clutch.
She dropped the first set 6-7 (4-7), but came battling right back as she took a 6-1 second set. In the third and final set, Moraes kept up the momentum, taking a 6-3 win and the match for the Patriots.
MEN'S MATCH: #9 UT Tyler: 4, #44 Cameron: 3
The men's match would provide similar drama to the women's match, but it was the Aggies who would take the doubles point as they took the #2 and #3 lines to lead 1-0 heading into singles.
In those singles matches, the Patriots put on an avalanche, taking three matches in straight sets, each taking less than 90 minutes.
Artiom Dorofeev began with a 6-2, 6-2 win in line #2, and
Malo Poulesquen added to the tally with a 6-4, 6-2 win to put the Patriots in front.
Jordi Garcia Portell added to the momentum, taking a 6-3, 6-2 straight sets win in line #6, and suddently the Patriots had the match at match point.
The Aggies dug deep and won the #4 line, but it was the Patriots who ultimately took the match.
Martin Despodov would serve as the clinching point, earning a 7-5, 7-5 straight sets win in the #3 line to give the Patriots their fourth point.
UT Tyler will now set their sights on the final week of the regular season as they will host UT Permian Basin and Lubbock Christian in a pair of critical matchups in the LSC Championship race.
