Patriots Tennis Sweeps UT Permian Basin with Pair of 5-2 Wins

Both sides earned 5-2 wins on Saturday at Summers Tennis Center over the Falcons after strong singles efforts for both teams.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler tennis began their weekend with a pair of key LSC wins on Saturday as both teams came away with the win over UT Permian Basin.

On the women's side, the Patriots would see UT Permian Basin take the early advantage, as they took both the #1 and #3 lines on their way to a 1-0 lead.
 
However, in singles, the Patriots got on a roll and never looked back on their way to a comeback win. Allison Schwartz and Paula Castellanos spearheaded the effort, as they earned straight sets wins in just under an hour and 15 minutes to take the lead.
 
Schwartz earned a 6-2, 6-2 win in line #5, and Castellanos followed with a 6-1, 7-5 effort in the #4 line to put the Patriots up 2-1.
 
The Patriots rally continued in the first two lines, as both Yona Bancarel and Natalia Gorzny would put a stamp on the match with straight sets wins to get to the four points needed for a win.
 
Bancarel would earn a 6-4, 6-3 straight sets win in line #1, and Gorzny followed just a minute later with a 6-4, 7-5 straight sets win of her own as the Patriots then led 4-1.
 
The Patriots added one final win in the #3 line, as Carla Rodier rallied back from a 2-6 first set to earn wins of 6-2 and 6-4 to earn the win and move the Patriots to a final score of 5-2.
 
MEN'S MATCH: #8 UT Tyler 5, #47 UT Permian Basin: 2
 
On the men's side of action, the Patriots got off to a roaring start as they swept all three matches in doubles on their way to a 1-0 lead as they headed into singles.
 
Martin Despodov would keep up the Patriots momentum in singles, as he took just over an hour to dispatch his opponent 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets in the #3 line.
 
Right behind him was Artiom Dorofeev, who earned a huge 6-1, 6-4 straight sets win in line #2 to put the Patriots up 3-0 and onto match point.
 
They would have to wait much longer, as Malo Poulesquen earned a huge win in line #4 with a three set thriller. After earning a 6-2 first set win, he fell 4-6 in set two. That set up a big set three, and Poulesquen locked in to a 6-1 win to put the Patriots ahead 4-0 and secure the win.
 
Jordi Garcia Portell would add one more win to the Patriots tally on the day, as he came away with a three set win in line #5. Garcia Portell split the first two sets 2-6, 6-4, but then rolled to a 6-3 win in set number three.
 
The Patriots are back in action on Sunday afternoon, as they will face off with Lubbock Christian at Summers Tennis Center. The women's match is set to begin at 10 a.m. and the men's match at 1 p.m.
 
The men's match will also double as a match for the Lone Star Conference Regular Season title. The Patriots have won two regular season titles in their first four years of competition in the league.
