TYLER, TEXAS - #25 UT Tyler women's tennis fought tough against #20 Lubbock Christian in their regular season finally but ultimately fell 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.
The Patriots got off to a big start in doubles, sweeping their matches to lead 1-0.
Kanika Sivaraman and
Paula Castellanos put together a giant 6-0 win, and
Carla Rodier and
Allison Schwartz won 6-3 in line #2.
Yona Bancarel and
Natalia Gorzny capped off the sweep with a 7-6 (7-5) win in line #1.
The Lady Chaps battled back with a win in the #1 line and the #6 line, but
Carla Rodier would slip in a win in the #3 line by scores of 6-3, 7-5 to move the match score to 2-2 with three matches remaining in singles.
Natalia Gorzny put together a thrilling comeback after dropping her first set 4-6, winning her next two sets 6-4, 6-2 to move the Patriots out in front.
The Lady Chaps earned the tying point in the #5 line in another three set thriller, setting up the match to come down to the #4 line.
Paula Castellanos rattled off a 6-1 first set win, but the Lady Chaps answered with a 6-7 (5-7) marathon win. That set up a final set for the match, and the Lady Chaps would come out on top with a 4-6 win ultimately leading to a 4-3 win for the Lady Chaps.
The Patriots will now head out for the Lone Star Conference Tournament, where they earn the #4 seed. That tournament will be played May 1-3 at the Arlington Tennis Center.
