ARLINGTON, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's tennis earned their first LSC Tournament win since 2022 as they took down Texas A&M-Kingsville 4-1 in the LSC Quartefinals on Thursday.
The Patriots got off to a big start, taking the #1 and #2 lines in doubles.
Yona Bancarel and
Natalia Gorzny combined for a 6-3 win in line #1. They were one-upped by
Carla Rodier and
Allison Schwartz, as they delivered a 6-1 win in line #2 to secure a 1-0 lead for the Patriots.
In singles, the Patriots poured it on, as Schwartz moved to 2-0 on the day after a 6-2, 6-4 striaght sets win in just 90 minutes. She would be followed by teammate
Paula Castellanos, who earned a 6-4, 6-3 straight sets win to put the Patriots on match point.
The Javelinas earned a win in the #6 line to get on the board, but
Carla Rodier slammed the door shut in the #3 line. She picked up a 6-4, 6-2 straight sets win, earning the fourth and final point necessary for the win.
#4 seed UT Tyler will now face off with #1 seed St. Mary's on Friday at 1 p.m.
