Women’s Tennis to Square Off with Javelinas to Begin LSC Tournament

The Patriots return to the LSC Tournament for the first time since 2023 and have earned the #4 seed.

LAST TIME OUT

Last weekend the Patriots wrapped up their 2025 regular season by going 1-1 in their two matches. They took down UT Permian Basin 5-2 and then battled closely with #20 Lubbock Christian before falling 4-3.

THE 2025 SEASON

This season the Patriots have posted a 16-9 record and a 7-3 record in LSC play. Both of those are the program's best marks since jumping to Division II, and the 16-9 record is the best team record since they went 16-8 all the way back in 2018.

The Patriots picked up four ranked wins and had a four match win streak at one point. The dueling pair of Paula Castellanos and Natalia Gorzny have played a vital role, with Castellanos going 17-5 and Gorzny going 17-6.

In doubles, the pair of Castellanos and Gorzny went 11-3, and the pair of Yona Bancarel and Gorzny played to a 6-2 record.

LSC TOURNAMENT

Six teams made the LSC Women's Tournament, led by #1 overall seed St. Mary's. #4 UT Tyler will face off with #5 Texas A&M-Kingsville in one of the two quarterfinal matches. #3 Lubbock Christian and #6 DBU will square off in the other quarterfinal matchup.

The winner of the Patriots matchup will move on to face #1 seed St. Mary's in the semifinal round on Friday. Saturday will see the two winners of the semifinal rounds face off at 1 p.m.

The Patriots make their third ever appearance in the LSC Tournament, and they are 1-2 all-time in their three matches. Their lone win came back in 2022 as they took down Angelo State in the opening round to make the semifinals.

THE JAVELINAS

Texas A&M-Kingsville heads into this week's matchup at 12-7 overall and 6-4 in LSC play. They have won three of their last four matches, including a win over #21 Lubbock Christian back on April 10.

Alessa Maier is 17-2 on the year, all in the #1 line. She also pairs up with Milou ter Morsche to create a doubles pair that is 15-4 on the season and 8-2 in LSC play.

The Javelinas are led by head coach Autumn Wollenzien. She has been the head coach since July of 2014 and has led the program to nine LSC Tournament appearances.
