TYLER, TEXAS - #3 ranked UT Tyler softball earned another LSC sweep on Tuesday as they took down Texas Woman's by scores of 12-0 and 4-1 on the road in Denton, Texas.
GAME ONE: #3 UT Tyler: 12, Texas Woman's: 0
Game one of the day saw the Patriots score at least one run in every inning as they were nothing short of dominant in the run-rule win.
That scoring got in the first, as a
JT Smith leadoff hit by pitch and a
Sam Schott sacrifice bunt put the pressure on early. Two batters later, it was
Ka'Lyn Watson coming up clutch with an RBI single to make it 1-0.
In the second inning,
Jordyn De Los Santos drove home
Hailey Fannin on an RBI sacrifice fly, and then
JT Smith drove home another run as she singled to center field to make it 3-0.
Taryn Barney would reach on a bunt single and that brought home Bailey Krolcyzk to quickly make it 4-0 after just two and a half innings.
The big inning came for the Patriots in the fourth, as they brought five runs to the plate and put the game into run-rule territory. After a leadoff double, Smith tripled to left center field to drive home the first run. She would scamper home one batter later, as Schott hit a sacrifice fly to center. The Patriots kept the rally going with two straight singles, and then two straight errors would bring home three more runs to expand the lead to 9-0.
In the top of the fifth, the Patriots would add three final runs, as Schott drilled a two run blast to left field and then Barney drew an RBI hit by pitch to cap off the Patriots run total at 12 for the first contest.
In the circle,
Kaylee Davis would be lights out, throwing all five innings in a complete game shutout effort. She allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out six batters. She would throw 80 pitches and 51 strikes on the day.
At the plate, Smith, Krolczyk, Barney, and Watson each collected multiple hit efforts, with Watson leading the way at three. Schott, Smith, and Barney each drove in at least two, and Schott led the way with three RBI.
GAME TWO: #3 UT Tyler: 4, Texas Woman's: 1
Game two would not see the same offensive outburst as neither side was able to score a run in the opening two frames. The Patriots leaned on a big day from
Cera Blanchard, as she threw six innings in the win.
Blanchard allowed just four hits while striking out three and allowing just one run to the Pioneers to cap off a strong day in the circle for the Patriots. She would work a 1-2-3 first, third, and fourth, and allowed just one baserunner through the first four innings.
At the plate, the Patriots would break the scoreless tie in the third inning, sparked by a rally that began with a
JT Smith leadoff single. Schott would lay down the sacrifice bunt, but a throwing error moved both runners into scoring position. That brought
Bailey Krolczyk to the plate, and she came through with a sacrifice fly.
In the fifth, Smith led off again, this time with a hit by pitch. Schott would again lay down the sacrifice bunt, and Krolczyk again came up with a sacrifice fly and the Patriots doubled their lead. The home half would provide the only run of the day for the Pioneers, as they were able to scrape together their first two hits of the game, the second of which being an RBI single to make it 2-1.
In the sixth, the Patriots took advantage of a leadoff walk by
Taryn Barney before another walk and a hit by pitch would load the bases later in the inning with two outs. That would send Smith to the plate in a pivotal moment, and she came up clutch with a two RBI single up the middle to put a pair of key insurance runs on the board.
Blanchard would work her final scoreless frame in the sixth, getting three groundouts around a single to keep the Pioneers at bay.
Blanchard made room for
Primrose Aholelei in the seventh, and after a leadoff double, would finish off the inning with a flyout, strikeout, walk, and another strikeout to end the threat and put the Patriots in the win column.
JT Smith led the Patriots charge at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Bailey Krolczyk would go 0-for-1, recording a pair of RBI on two sacrifice flies.
The Patriots will be back in action on Friday afternoon as they welcome St. Edward's to Irwin Field. That doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m.
