#1 Seed Patriots Set for LSC Tournament

UT Tyler looks for their third LSC Tournament title in program history and back-to-back titles for the first time.

LAST TIME OUT

Last week the Patriots faced off with #47 UT Permian Basin and #5 Lubbock Christian. The Patriots took care of business against the Falcons, cruising to a 5-2 win. That set up a showdown on Sunday that would ultimately decide the LSC Regular Season Champion. The Patriots prevailed in that matchup, taking a 4-3 win as Jordi Garcia Portell clinched the winning point as the Patriots earned their third LSC Regular Season championship.

THE 2025 SEASON

The Patriots have put together a brilliant season, going 21-1 during the regular season and are riding an 18 match win streak, with their lone defeat coming to #2 West Florida all the way back on February 28.

The Patriots earned 11 All-LSC honors on Wednesday, led by LSC Coach of the Year Chris Bizot and LSC Co-Newcomer of the Year Martin Despodov. Artiom Dorofeev was named LSC First Team Singles, Malo Poulesquen was named Second Team Singles, and the pair combined for an Honorable Mention doubles position. Daniil Felker and Carel Wessel were each named Honorable Mention Singles and Doubles, and Wessel also earned the LSC Sportsmanship Team nod.

THE LSC TOURNAMENT

The Patriots head into the LSC postseason tournament as the #1 seed. Five teams make up the field this season, with two of those teams playing a quarterfinal match on Thursday before the semifinals on Friday.

#4 seed Midwestern State took down #5 seed Cameron 4-0 on Thursday, meaning the Mustangs and Patriots will square off in the semifinals. #2 Lubbock Christian and #3 UT Permian Basin face off in the second semifinal.

The two winners will then meet up at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning to determine the LSC Tournament champion.

UT Tyler won the LSC Tournament last year after taking down #6 St. Mary's, #2 UT Permian Basin, and #1 Midwestern State on their way to their second LSC Tournament title in program history.

THE MUSTANGS

The Patriots and Midwestern State will square off for the second time this season. The two teams met on April 17th on the road in Wichita Falls, Texas and the Patriots rolled to a 5-2 win. They took the doubles point and then got singles wins in the #1, #2, #4, and #5 lines to leave no doubt in LSC action.

Midwestern State is 14-5 on the year and finished the regular season 5-3 in LSC play. They took down #5 seed Cameron in the LSC first round by a score of 4-0.

The Mustangs are led in singles by Bruno Sanchez and Stephen Slocombe. Sanchez is 12-6 on the year, primarily in the #2 line. Slocombe is 12-4 on the year, primarily in the #3 line.

In doubles, Slocombe pairs with Filip Vacula to go 12-5, while Sanchez pairs with teammate Justin Van Amerongen to go 11-5.

The Mustangs are led by coach Scott Linn. Linn is in his 15th season with the program and has earned 9 LSC Coach of the Year awards.
