PUEBLO, COLORADO - UT Tyler track and field closed out their day one efforts at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships on Thursday as they competed in the men's 4x100 relay, men's 100 meters, men's 400 meter hurdles, and women's 400 meters.
The first event for the Patriots of the day would be the men's 4x100 meter relay.
Dylan Bennett,
Landon Smith, Ashton Bates, and
Nicholas Davis combined to run a time of 40.14 seconds, placing themselves 10
th overall and missing out on qualification into Saturday's finals by just .17 seconds.
Next up for the Patriots would be the women's 400 meters, where
Kamaria Carr would represent the program. Carr ran a time of 55.41 seconds, placing herself 20
th overall on the day.
The next runner on day one would come in the men's 100 meters, where
Dylan Bennett laced up his spikes for the second time. The freshman ran a time of 10.38, placing himself 20
th and just .25 seconds outside of qualification into Saturday's finals in a tightly packed leaderboard.
The final runner of the day for the Patriots would be
Ashton Turner, who took to the track for his first event of the championships. He ran in the 400 meter hurdles and put together a time of 53.00 seconds, ultimately placing himself 12
th overall and 1.9 seconds outside of qualification into the finals.
The Patriots will battle it out in one final event in the NCAA Championships, that being the 110 meter hurdles tomorrow evening. There,
Ashton Turner and
Brandon Arenas will head to the track and look to qualify for Saturday's finals. That race will take place at approximately 7:55 p.m. central time.
