PORTALES, NEW MEXICO – UT Tyler track and field wrapped up the 2025 LSC Outdoor Championships with a 4
th place finish for the men and a 7
th place finish for the women after a strong showing in the three day affair.
The day for the Patriots began in the men's long jump, where
MThabisi MPofu would pick up four points for the Patriots men. He cleared a distance of 7.32 meters in his third jjump of the day, earning a fifth place finish and just .12 meters outside the podium places.
On the track, the day got started with the men's 4x100 relay, where the quartet of
Dylan Bennett,
Landon Smith,
Jackson Crysup, and
Nicholas Davis competed. The group would put together a time of 40.26, the second fastest time in the event and earning eight points for the program.
In the men's 1,500 meters, the Patriots continued their hot streak, picking up a pair of point scoring efforts from
Chris Kopecky and
David Soto. Kopecky placed seventh in a time of 4:02.36, but was bested by Soto, who ran a time of 4:01.26. Those efforts would see six total points added to the total.
The Patriots women would get themselves on the board with a big effort in the 100 meter hurdles, where two athletes finished inside the top five.
Isabel Jakobsen placed fourth and earned five points as she ran a time of 14.43. She would be beaten however by teammate
Bracie Vaughn, who ran a school record time of 13.81 on her way to second place and eight points.
Next up was the men's 110 hurdles, where the Patriots arguably had their best event of the day.
Odey Jeffs would place seventh, earning two points in a time of 14.84.
Ashton Turner would be a podium finisher, placing himself third as he ran a time of 13.79 to pick up six points. However, they each would be bested by
Brandon Arenas, who took home the gold medal in a time of 13.73 and earning 10 key points.
The Patriots women would get back in the points column in the 400 meters, as
Kamaria Carr finished fifth. She earned four points after a time of 54.13 in the event.
In the men's version of the same event,
William Davis and
Zachary Paul would place seventh and eighth, earning three points total for the Patriots men.
Brandi Drake competed for the Patriots women in the 100 meter dash, and she would ultimately place eighth, earning a point and running a time of 12.58.
In the men's version of the event,
Dylan Bennett and
Landon Smith would each collect points as they continued their big day after the 4x100 meter relay. Bennett ran a time of 10.23, breaking the school record on his way to third place and six points. Smith finished in 10.44, placing fifth and earning four points.
Arguably the best event of the day for the Patriots women featured three point scoring efforts in the 800 meters, as well as a new school record.
Macy Cogburn and
Calista Segura would place eighth and seventh in times of 2:28.29 and 2:18.33, while
Kymia Woodard placed herself fifth. Woodard ran a time of 2:11.94, earning four points in her race and setting a new school record.
In the 400 meter hurdles for the women,
Isabel Jakobsen continued her point scoring day as she picked up a point after placing eighth in a time of 1:07.09. Teammate
Hannah Lakin would provide four more points in a fifth place run, closing out her race in 1:03.42.
In the men's version of the event,
Ashton Turner would break his own school record in the event on his way to a runner up finish and eight points. He ran a time of 51.01, just .07 out of the top spot.
In the men's 200 meters, three more Patriots would place themselves in the top five, including two on the podium. Ashton Bates placed fifth with four points after a time of 31.88. Ahead of him was
Landon Smith, who ran a 21.13 to place third and earn six points. They both would be bested by
Dylan Bennett, who ran a 20.92 on his way to second place and eight points, just .13 seconds outside the top spot.
The final event of the day would feature the 4x400 meter relay, and the Patriots had one final podium up their sleeve.
Jackson Crysup,
Caleb Williams,
Ashton Turner, and
William Davis would combine for a time of 3:10.99, earning a third place finish and six points for their program as they cleared the fourth place team by nearly three seconds.
